Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have a front-load, small door model Speed Queen washer built in '04 I bought a few years ago from a dealer NOS.  Love it!

Just steering some friends replacing a Frigilux front-load washer toward Speed Queen.  He wants a traditional top-loader after having mixed results with the front load Frigidaire.

Some mutual friends of John & Smitty and I here in the area replaced a Maytag Neptune washer with a SQ front-loader last year and they seem to be very happy with it.

= 2 + a possible 2 more (update in the next few days ;-)

AWN432 that my wife and I bought after the mistake of a Maytag Neptune (made by Samsung) that we had. Washer does what it is intended for, get our cloths clean and that is all we wanted.

Huebsch ZWN432 dryer and ZDE30 dryer 2009 models. Bought Oct 2009.
Ab-So-Lut-Tely nothing to report. Had 2 unbalanced loads (recognized by hearing the machine sound) in that timeframe that were handled beautifully as one would expect.

Buying first speed queen sq

Brand new here. Bought new lg toploader after lots of research, except cr, and it tears up laundry. Had drum replaced on them and still extremely rough and doesnt clean well. Just want a washer from 80s back. So confusing on which brand to buy...but sounds like sq is answer. It's quite a splurge for me but figure price should makeup for not needed as many repairs.

So...which speed queen do I go with? Do I want toploader for sure as far as dependability and cleaning? And which model do I want or stay away from?

Theres a place near me with good reputation Stewart Molander. They only carry a certain series.
Thank you , seems like this sites got the lowdown on sq.

Had an AWN432 bought in 2013 and gave to a member here last year before I moved. If I buy from this company again it would be their front loader.

The top loader was good but for some reason I don't want to do a repeat performance... it's like "been there done that".

I like the Estate 24"DD and the Amana I have better.

For Great Performance and LONG Life

Get the SQ Front Load Washer, I would not buy ANY TL washer today, If you buy SQ the FL machine is only around $500 more and it will last twice as long as their TL washers and 3 to 4 times as long as any other TL washer  you can buy today.

In addition the FL washer cleaner much better, rinses better and is easy on your clothing.

The water and hot water and electrical use are all about 1/3 of what the TL washer uses so the SQ FL washer will pay back the difference in initial cost long before it wears out.

I just bought the SQ SS FL washer last November, and am keeping my 16YO SQ FL machine as well, the older one has never had a single problem.

Mold Growth In Washers

Hi Patrick, There should never be any mold growth in any washer if it is used properly.

When I took a trip to Australia 3 years ago for 3 weeks when I came home I realized I had left my sheets in my SQ FL washer for 3 weeks with the door closed, when I opened the door the sheets smelled fresh and wonderful so they went in the dryer and back on the bed.

John I completely agree. When I had my Whirlpool FL I never had any foul smells or odors or any of the things people have complained about. Most of my washes are warm or hot with plenty of good detergent.

I rarely ever use cold except for colors. Even my Amana has a "cool" setting that works well and after a year of heavy use with the Amana it has no mustly or mouldy smell.

Hot water and bleach are our friends.

I bought a . . .

. . . Speed Queen front load machine at the wash-in in Beltsville, MD from the guru of washing machines.  It performs flawlessly.  I am amazed that there is no vibration when it goes into its fast spin.  It's been a great deal for me.

A little off topic..

I was cleaning dryer vents for a 12 suite hair salon the other day. While cleaning behind the lint trap, I had to shine a light from my phone to see in there, my phone fell in the blower housing. 4 screws later, I was able to access the blower housing and rescue my phone. I get when they say, service friendly, they mean service friendly. I had that taken apart and back together in less than 5 minutes!

TC5 in 2/2020

Performs effortlessly for our family of 5, and the water bill is consistently in the $70-80 range, which wasn’t that much different from the whirlpool FL that it replaced. What’s the first thing I did after it was delivered? Disable the lid switch of course! Thanks for all of the knowledge
