Bill, I have had GE, Kenmore, Whirlpool, and now SQ, the washers all have that clickity-clack timer, I love that sound! LOL It's how you know you're going to start a wash!

I also see no problems with SQs timers, on the dryers they have been using the one directional timers for YEARS in commercial applications and we have seldom seen a problem with these timers, in fact it would stand to reason that they would be more durable because you can not turn them backwards just like almost all mechanical washer and dishwasher timers ever made.

I've used a '60 Norge,'63 Fridgidaire,'67 KM LK,'81 KM 70,'86 KM,&'96 KM prior to the SQ's. The Norge timer was smoother,but a bit sloppy.The Frig was very good. The KM's all ok,esp the '67 keyboard 'clang'@ cycle beginning when you used the cycle buttons.

I see NO problem having a quiet,2 direction dryer timer. The 16 year old '90' series never had a problem.

AND,I appreciate 'starting the wash' mechanical sounds as much as anyone here,just think a bit more fluidity in both washer/dryer timers would feel better and give a higher quality feel.

I love the SQ's and am glad they're still available as mechanical as they are.

The commercial machines already are. It's just a matter of time before the domestic models follow...
