Speed Queen gas dryer help please

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Had to amputate by sawing the bolt head as it would not come off in any way, well it will  always have just one  bolt in the holder for  the coils in place, not a problem I guess, tried to read a part number but looks like the code on them is not actually a code so tried to write to speed queen and online seller to ask if (american) 120 volts  would work anyway for my model and dryer running on 220 volt...let's see and hope to fix the problem changing the coils...

Thanks

@kenmoreguy89:

My understanding of the U.S. code requirements that natural gas piping be done in threaded steel or "gastite" piping are corrosion resistance, fatigue failure issues, and joint quality in concealed areas.

I think you might have a gas delivery issue rather than a problem with your dryer. If the flame is yellow, you're not getting enough gas. Either that's a burner problem or a gas delivery problem.

I'm not questioning your skill to do this stuff but if inexpert people do tamper with gas equipment and this results in a leak which then results in an explosion, killing someone in the building, the UK law starts to sound a little less stupid!

Gas is to respected you can take out the whole building,  that said,  my Kenmore  had a bad "infrared heat sensor",  that kept shutting down the burner,  this sensor is what actuates the gas valve to "on" when the the igniter is glowing red.  be careful.   For safety turn off tthe gas to the dryer or the house until this is corrected,  our local code requires a shut off valve at every gas appliance.  Best of luck.  arthur

Byself gas conncections.....let me be clear please....

Almost everyone I know that is able to connect a hose does it byself over here,  and would laugh at  a law (if there is here) telling they can't connect their gas appliances or extend a gas  pipe theirself....of course gas is dangerous and would result in damages for others also, but like dangerous  would  even be an old gas heater operated and not checked for awhile,   that would make no that  sense to put a law avoiding every work on gas, rather  that would be personal  good sense to call a plumber if you don't know what you're doing or have doubts about....this is my thought and prohibiting  to anyone to do that byself if  he does have  personal skills (not wrote  on  a piece of paper) is not fair nor have sense for me.
It does not take so much, I mean using teflon metal clamps   and then  eventually leak finder sprays, or the good and old method of dish soap and bubbles......
If one is that idiot to do a job without knowing what he is doing, well, I would not let in his hands even a gas stove as probably would mess with it or at worse leave gas open etc.....
If there would be such a law I know countless people including my father that until last month used to connect gas cylinders byself (now he got an underground tank) that would get a  large penality but nobody would bother him.....but he is still connecting evrything byself including gas plants into farm he is restructuring....he does not care as well of laws as most  of them are stupid in Italy.
Since Italy is homeland of stupid laws especially ones about jobplace safety it probably there is a law saying this, I can just tell you that working into a precious metal delaer and gold  furnace we'd need to call a plumber everytime we have to change a cylinder, a thing we of course do ourselves!
Nobody ever complained or stated we can't, rather we would laugh so much at it as every man a little skilled into these connection things.....
Another matter would be a whole gas plant as said that would probably take a qualified plumber in most cases not certainly working on a stove, dryer, heater etc....connection, coils etc... that is still ridicule to me...
Said this yes gas supply to dryer has been closed  as me "unqualified" guy  included a tap going to dryer, of course in case of problems to dryer I would stay be without gas going to stove, how would I cook?
About a gas delivery issue,  as you can read I thought it could be that, but since I noticed  that until coils are "cool" so after a long pause  the dryer works as it should and flame is okay and big enough and burner cone was clear without any sign of blacks marks ( I've read which are typical residues of yellow/orange flames), so it means that my dryer worked fine even if that  copper  pipe which is anchored to the wall got bent during last  works  in the kitchen , so should be not a supply issue at this point.... I believe enough gas pass through and passed ... I think at least hope it is a problem of coils, I also recently read online a story almost identical to mine and the guy solved it with a coil change, probably the boosting coil  got weak and does not open as it should....it was the thing happened to this guy.

Ignitor sensor works fine as I can hear the "clunk" when it open the valve,  so mean ignitor sensor recognize the heat of ignitor  and so current is sent (verified it with a current tester)....
Just do not sure why it shuts off, likely is that holding and  boosting coil... I can hear a clunk when it goes off after awhile the flame actually stopped burning,  and I suppose it is the sensor which not feeling heat anymore send signal to  the security valve to shut off....so I suppose everything works as it should....
I will try to change these coils, I've contacted Speed Queen and they said that the coils I need are the same used for models running on 120 volt so there is no difference, and already order a coil kit on ebay, 9.99$ and 4.50$ is a reasonable price, on repai clinic only one costed 20 bucks! So it is a deal, maybe not original parts but would do their job anyway...
For now I thank you all again and I'll let you know how it ends!
