Speed Queen LWN432SP115TWO1 washer modification

The missus wants me to modify the controls on a Speed Queen top load washer, model # LWN432SP115TWO1 so that lifting the lid does not stop the water fill process, she is so used to our almost immortal Maytag which continues to fill the drum when the lid is open.
The Speed Queen has an uber reliable mechanical timer, it's the main reason why I bought it used.
For safety reasons, of course agitate and spin modes would be interrupted when the lid is opened, so please do not suggest that I bypass the lid switch completely, that is totally out of the question.
Has anyone done this to their SQ before?

For the second option I am <span style="text-decoration: underline;">ASSUMING</span> the wiring diagram is 100% correct and that internal bussing for terminal 8 goes directly to the timer motor, drive motor high contact, drive motor low contact. If, for some unknown reason any one of of these contacts or timer connect to terminal 4 and not terminal 8 through internal timer bussing you're out of luck.

 

Option two is a gamble.

Getting a Speed Queen top load washer to fill with lid open

I would just install a bypass switch on the rear of the control panel so you can bypass the lid switch when you want to watch the machine and flip it back to the other position when you want the safety switch to operate in case or somebody else Were around that were not aware of the machine has been modified.

To me, this would be a good solution you could engineer more complicated one where the bypass times out after five minutes or something, but I don’t know if it’s worth going to that much trouble. It’s really not that dangerous with the lid switch bypassed. I would actually like to see the machine agitate as well, so you can tell if it’s loaded properly you have enough Detergent in it, etc.

You can get away with a simple clothespin ….find the lever in the back right corner of the top under the backsplash and open the clothespin and fasten the lever to the cross frame brace. Easy peasy. You can get away with this since it has a mechanical timer. But it will not shut the washer off during agitation or spin if you open the lid during the cycle. If you don’t have kids it won’t be an issue…with kids that’s another story.
