I'm guessing this would be used in a professional laundry area?

Quite a strange modification to make, but I could see Alliance making a buck or two by selling this as an option.

GE made a front loader which does something like this. The pedestal contains large containers which you fill with liquid detergent, fabric softener, etc.

Things like that are widely available over here in the professional setting, as an example my father has a row of those over the wet-cleaning machines, each has 6 pumps for detergents and additives: they are programmed to fill with certain products according to the selected cycle on the machines, he simply has to keep the tanks full in the storage area and everything is done automatically.

Anyway, also in the domestic setting there are systems like that (albeit much simpler) like the Fagor/Brandt top loader with integrated reservoir, Miele with its reservoir on top or Hotpoint with the automatic dispenser for detergent and softener in the pedestal or built in the machine.

Thanks Malcolm, this setup would be cost effective and foolproof in settings like "mainstream" housing for children with disabilities. The state/county can buy mass quantities of "supply" to be used by ancillary personel with less than optimal training. It would also eliminate theft. The chemicals could also be in an adjoining locking cabinet for "child-proofing". I think we will see more of these systems in the future. alr
