Who put that there?
Bought this 3.5 yr old SQ 412 hoping it only needed a lid switch, now I know why the owner was thinking transmission.
What's the AW brain trust suggest?
Apparently SQ is ready to ship out a new tranny to the guy I bought it from, should I green light that?

Thats Not Oil

But it does have a bad tub seal and if it is noisy during spin the top bearing is also ruined, but the trans is most likley just fine.

The transmission is probably still under warranty and SQ may just supply the trans and seal and bearing kit, but technically the seal and bearing is not covered by any warranty after 3 years.

The serial # will tell you how old the washer is. Installing a new seal and top bearing is a pretty involved job, most of these washers will just be recycled when this happens.

You are right john, the black staining is not oily.
I have watched the SQ video on doing a seal and I think I can handle it.
I just sold a machine identical to this one, but 5 years older, for enough to makes this job well worth my effort.
With new SQ TL sets are being advertised for $1700+ the market is jumping for a used machine.[this post was last edited: 3/12/2018-00:03]

I can get this working Huebsch for much less than a seal kit.
Was thinking of just putting the SQ top and sides on the Huebsch mechanicals.
Is it straight forward job or headache inducing?

Well I finally got around to creating my Franken-Queen.
Works great even after having sat outside for a year. That was the base and motor, the cabinet and controls were inside.
EVERYTHING clicked into place, no muss no fuss. No extra wires to sort out or anything like that.
The only thing that is off is that the control panel says “Stainless Steel” but she is sportin’ a black porcelain basket.
Two years later...lol...I got a back log people, lots of stuff going on that has dominated my time, destroy my mood, and set our savings on fire. A year of legal wrangles with a family member has been an unexpected and expensive nightmare that’s still in progress. ;-/

Forgot this all important pic.
Looking at it now it reminds me, the single best bang-for-yer-buck in cleaning appliances?
Removing the lid of a top load washer and clean the muck that accumulates under the inaccessible back edge.
Btw that is a red hand-truck being cushioned by a yellow Boogie-Board in the pic. You can also see my Bronze Maytags and the rear of the 57 Filterator Dryer.
