Mid 80s SQ Stacked Washer & Dryer

This is indeed essentially the same washer mechanism as what SQ used in their unusual tilt-out stack machine. The only real difference in the washer was that the washer in the stack used an electric drain pump so the stack machine did a much better job of getting grit and sand out of loads of clothing because as the machine was agitating the grit could just settle into the outer tub. Then when the washer goes to drain only the drain pump comes on at first till the machine is over 1/2 empty [ partial neutral drain ] and then it starts spinning to help flush dirt out of the bottom of the outer tub.
 
Appreciate the tips there John, as always I appreciate your insight into appliances. I will take a look at the belts when I get it home and since it had been sitting for a while, I will put some really hot water in the outer tub to swell the seal. Meanwhile, I will take a quick look over the belts to make sure they are in decent condition. In either case, I may want to still purchase a backup set in case these do fail down the road. Nothing like failures at the worse possible moment.

Can anyone speculate as to the reason why it appears that Speed Queen is so popular in commercial laundry with a (seemingly) unreliable mechanism?
 
Lebron, that is a very good question. Marketing & service area? SQ has had many different parent companies something like Barton & Seeling, McGraw Edison, Raytheon, Goodman and Alliance. It is still amazing to me that SQ was excluded from the "home laundry" business for sometime because of a business deal. I can not remember all that went on with that. Some one here will remember. LOL, it was long before WP owned almost every brand name. alr
 
No Stainless Steel Tub

I was disappointed too at that. It definitely seems factory though. It looks to good to be home done.

On a different note, weird issue with pics. Took pics with iPhone, emailed them to myself so I could render with windows pc. Turned the photos upright as iPhone likes to turn them. Posted them and they seem fine and upright on windows pc. Go on my iPad, and the pics are stretched and sideways.

Any ideas?
 
1980s Speed Queen Washers

SQ has almost always made both porcelain coated tubs and SS tubs for both home and commercial machines, the porcelain tubs are not only smother when new but look better and normally hold up very well without wasting dwindling world supplies of nickle, chrome, and copper.
 
the tag alone tells all....a Raytheon company......not that its a bad thing, but these are the ones with potential belt and seal issues.....

when I got mine, the belts were worn, and the pump did not turn smoothly.....but knock on wood, no seal issues.....mine dates to the early 80's change over from solid tub to perforated....

it is hit or mis with the Stainless tubs.....mine is dark porcelain....

odd for me, I had a white speckled porcelain solid tub decades ago, same control panel as the one I have now, and side opening lid....
 
Recirculation Filter?

Not sure what the quick waterfall is every time I start the machine with a tub full of water. Anyone know what it is? The only thing there is the fill flume and the incoming water looks nothing like that when filling. Don't see any other hoses either. Pump has one hose in and one hose out. Am I missing something obvious?
