Hi All,

Let me start by saying this is a great site. I have been an avid viewer of the site for a long time. I just acquired a Speed Queen solid tub washer, which prompted me to join. I have several questions and know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here.

1)The model # is FA3820 Serial Y2746455. Is there a way to determine the age with these numbers?

2)The screws holding the washtub to the center agitator column won’t budge. Any suggestions to ease removal?

3)The center agitator column has deteriorated in one spot close to where the washtub attaches. I would like to replace it if possible. Are there any sources on-line or in the Frederick / Baltimore MD area for a repair manual and parts? I’ve checked Repair Clinic and Partselect. Partselect states the column is no longer available.

Thanks in advance,
James

Hi James, welcome to the club!
#1) Other members of the club may be more precise than me, but I'd say that was a late 70's early 80's model.
#2) I've had lots of trouble getting the solid s/s tubs off the centerpost. You've got to use lots of heat, ie blowtorch. I end up drilling and cutting most of the time just to salvage the tub. It's rare to find a new centerpost these days, but I found 2 these past few years so don't give up hope.
3) You could try using plumber's epoxy putty to seal the leaks, it's worked on one of my SQ's and still so far so good.
