I did laundry in my Speed Queen wringer washer. The pump would not empty the tub. The strange thing is that it worked just fine the washday before. What do I look at or do to cure this? Help! Thanks, Gary

Gary, does the pump have a removable cover? If so, try opening it up and check to see if there is something clogging it.
My cherished Dominion automatic is suffering from 'Canyon Clogitis' - the pump got good and clogged with our dog's fine white hair when I washed his car blanket in it!

Thanks Paul, it does have a clamp like deal with a flat place to unscrew it. I'll look then. I did some washing before with a lot of lint in it. I'll let you know. Gary

The brace/clamp is fastened with a thumbscrew which should come off without too much trouble. The impeller on mine had ripped from a stick pin. Still unrepaired and gravity drained.
Another one delivered here had a drain port detergent build up, but since you take such good care of your machines, doubtful of that cause, though a much easier fix. Wish you luck. Last I heard, the impeller was still available from large appliance parts stores.

Actually wrote the post this afternoon, just came home to an open laptop with the post to you undelivered.
What fun! Hadn't seen what you and Paul said. A lint clogged pump would be the best case scenario. That pump opens as easy as those old clamped Mason jars. I hope you have a trouble-free fix.

Thanks for your help, I can get under there and have a good time, I hope? It drains without the pump but I have it in the kitchen and is much easier to drain that way. I wonder what Yogi would recommend I do? lol love it. Thanks, Gary

also...when you flip the knob, does it make contact with the pulley it rides/friction against...is it spinning?....also while your at it, do your hoses feels squishy and soft, or brittle and hard!.....I had a Maytag wringer's hose so stiff it would not flex to let the pump make contact.....
besides....you guys are instigating Devil's as well......be nice, were in the Imperial section....its hard enough for me to be good here as it is....

Update on the pump.
I just took the bottom portion of the pump off to check for any junk that had collected that would inhibit the pump impeller from turning. There was a bit of string that I removed but nothing else. How easy is the pump impeller supposed to turn when you turn it yourself? I put it all back together again and tried it. It looks like the pump isn't turning over enough to engage it against the flywheel. It looks like there is bronze or some sort of metal that is on the top of the pump housing that probably moves in contact with the flywheel.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Gary

check for an adjustment, or spring that will put tension on this wheel to help it make contact with the pulley......
some even use a flat vacuum belt along the pump wheel to add traction, and take up slack from a worn wheel.......brilliant idea in fact....

I will have to check that out. I was lying underneath the machine, not the machine on the floor. The hoses are fine too. It is really cramped in there and difficult to see much up under there. Thanks guys for your help. Gary

putting a new pump on my maytag wringer washer
I've had a reconditioned pump I purchased awhile back from Dave's Repair.com and Iam ready now to put it on my maytag wringer washer. I was hoping someone could let me know if there are any little tricks needed to make this go smoothly.
I figure I should just be able to remove the old pump,and just connect this one, and away I go. These washers are so well made to last for years. My maytag Atlantis I bought new, the washer has made a noise from day one which over a 6year period has only become louder and louder. I know that anyday now it's going
pack it in.
