Speen Queen wringer...

I found this on Kijiji. Would this have been the original colour? Could this be from the 70's when brown was "in". I've e-mailed the seller for price and more info. I like the design, so if the price is right, I may buy it.

Do wringers have transmissions? Would moving them upright be the best way to move them?

Yes...

This wringer does have a transmission, but it has no suspension. I'm sure moving them upright is "best" but aside from some oil leakage I see no reason why they couldn't be moved on it's side if there was no other way. These machines are simple, just watch the oil leakage if there is any.

Think it's been painted...

The colour and the style of the machine don't seem to match, IMO... I think this is an older machine that someone 'modernized' to match their coppertone range and refrigerator (possibly Vikings from Eaton's LOL).

According to the style of this Speed Queen, it has been repainted. I have a 1950 Speed Queen, and they only made them in white. I have seen an avocado "Queen" from the 60's, but never coppertone, don't know if they made them in coppertone. It's possible though.

P.S.,

I would only transport it upright. The wringer head does lift off the base. I put the wringer head from mine in a big recycling bin to keep it upright also. I didn't spill a drop of oil.

Got hold of the seller...

He says that it is a pump model and that the rollers are good. I asked if it was the original finish/colour and he tells me it is!

So I will go over on Monday and have a look. I can't imagine a 1950's wringer that is brown!

Guy, if your moving your washer, on it's side is ok for a bit.
Last year I loaded my old wringer in the car to take to the dump in the am. In the morning, the oil had leaked all over the car. It is very stinky and impossible to clean up.

50's wringer

Is this a 50's wringer? It looks like a newer Speed Queen wringer, seems like I have seen this color on them before, but the machine is the same series as our old one and it was late 60's?

....I could also be nuts.
