Steve was the perfect gentleman and host for this gathering. He needed to be after sniping the Highlander from me. But I'm not bitter. The smiles were from the sugar high we got from the decadent chocolate fudge cake and Fab detergent fumes. I was fun to get together with everyone.

The Kenmore's issue is that the inner tub and drive block have become one. It is on there super, super tight.

From looking at the location of the door, somehow I get the feeling an appliance was never meant to go where the dryer is. Yours looks like the kind of situation that often would make people buy a combo machine back in the old days.

Hi! You are exactly right. Space is at a premium in my kitchen, but I was not willing to go to a "stacked" unit when I first moved here in 1992. Also it saved me having to have the place re-wired for 220v (since a gas line was already there and I could use a gas dryer), which I would have had to do to use a decent OLD combo!

Hi Steve, if you've got the basket nut removed and the spin tub wont budge, here is a trick I learned. Climb into the wash basket (carefully) and stand up, alternate pushing your weight from foot to foot over and over again around the basket. This is the only thing I have ever found to work with Kenmore washers this old.

Hi Robert, the basket drive block is still in place. It feels as though it may be obstructing the removal of the basket somehow. Since it moves up and down the agitator shaft along with the spin tube as one piece, I feel like it must be a problem with the spin tube/basket drive block. I WILL try your idea, however, as everything else has not worked as of yet. Thanks, Steve

Hey! Steve, I definately back Robert about what he suggested. I've had several WP/Kenmore Baskets get jammed onto the Hub of older Washers and I climbed into the Washers Basket and proceeded to actually stomp {not too hard, but giving some force} and have loosened the Baskets. I was at that time "BTW" around between 175 and 185 pounds at least. You know that no one in the Club would certainly not suggest something if they have never attempted something themselves before suggesting. I have had the Hub come out with the Baskets as well too, then I just took a Rubber Mallet to hit the Hub to loosen it from the Basket. "Good-Luck" with getting the Basket to break loose, so you can continue your checking out the Washer and getting it operating smoothly again.
