That gets major points for clever design.
First of all, in Japan, indoor space is at a premium, so turning a vacuum into a piece of casual furniture makes it do double duty and saves space.
Second, when you want to vacuum, the vacuum is right in the room, you don't have to go get it from the closet.
Third, the feature that automatically shakes out the filter when the cord rewinds is way clever and cool, I have never seen or heard of anything like that before (what's going on here is that the cord reel is connected to an off-center rotor that acts like a vibrator or beater to shake the filter).
IMHO that design is even ahead of the present times in certain ways.
