Great Lightening Job On The Plastic Top And Lid

Hi Eric, Its looks much better, I will have to try that stuff on several plastic items I have that have discolored, this discoloration is the legacy of florescent lighting and of corse sun light.

The howling noise sounds like bad main bearings, there are service manuals around but it is a big job. I attempted to replace a bad seal and bearings in one of these Hitachi built GEs about 40 years ago and gave up, and I even had the new parts from GE.

Bearing failures were not that common of these washers, I would try to find one with good bearings.

If someone had a good, high-resolution photo from straight-on, you should be able to reproduce that fairly easily.

For things that don't get handled too often, I've had very good success making stickers with the packaging tape toner transfer method. It's simple and cheap, might be worth a shot here?

Thanks John! I used 40 Volume Developer, you can get it at beauty supply or amazon. Keep in mind, its strong peroxide. Wear gloves and eye protection, its not nice stuff!

If you gave up on one, I’d wager I have no chance. I have my eye out for a replacement. I would likely be just as happy with a belt drive Whirlpool or Kenmore portable, though I have a Hoover Twin that has to move on before I’m allowed another toy.

I’ll keep the transfer idea in mind, for now, the machine might have gotten as much repair as I can muster.
