Sunbeam C30A stuck together

Well, I finally recieved my wedding present from my future bride, a Sunbeam C30A with the metal filter. Now here's the problem. It's stuck together, like the rubber has glued itself to the bottom bowl. I tried a little to pry it apart with a knife but stopped because I didn't want to mess it up any more.

Is the pot no good? How can I get it unstuck and what's the best way to clean 50 year old coffee stains?

Hi Jason,

Try putting some water (about a half of a pot) in the bottom bowl (this is done by filling the top bowl with water then sticking a straw down the center so that the air can escape the bottom pot and let the water flow down) then run it through a cycle. This should soften the rubber enough that you can get them apart. This is done by making sure that the handles are directly in line with each other. Grasp the lower pot and with your thumbs pry the top pot up. This should work. If not....repeat the whole thing over. It may take a couple of times for the heat and steam to soften it up.

I find the best(fastest) way to clean these is to spray the pots with oven cleaner while they are still hot. You may want to do this outside since the fumes can be bad. Let the whole thing sit for an hour or more and then fill the lower pot with water (don't rinse out the oven cleaner, snap on the top pot and run it through a cycle. If everything isn't clean then repeat!

Do you have anything called Dip-It there?

When my neighbor gave me my Sunbeam, the top was stuck to the bottom. I put water in the top, let it go down to the bottom and when I put the switch on HIGH to heat, it came apart.
Maybe try that.

Congratulations Jason! The gasket is probably petrified. Slowly pour boiling water into the top bowl. The vent hole in the tube will allow air to escape while you pour. Fill the pot with 2 or 3 coups of the boiling water and then turn it upside down in a protected sink area so that it does not tip over. After about a half hour, turn it upright and try to lift the upper bowl with a sideways lifting motion. If you hold the handle for the lower bowl with one hand, pull the handles away from each other sideways and up. It will either come apart or need to soak a while longer. You will probably need a new gasket.

For the coffee stains inside the lower bowl, fill it to the top with boiling water and a tablespoon of dishwasher detergent that contains chlorine. Stir, but be careful to keep the spoon from scraping the inside of the pot and let it sit for about a half hour and the stains should be gone. The construction of the Coffeemaster is chrome over copper. Do not ever scour stains or you will take the chrome off and once the copper comes in contact with the coffee, it ruins the flavor.

Hey. Thanks for the advice. I'll try to get that Sunbeam going soon enough. I have other things to think about besides a coffee pot. I'll let yall know how it works.
