Hey Guys!

What is the best way to clean a white Sunbeam Mixmaster that has discolored over the years? What is the best and safest way to whiten it without removing or damaging the paint?

And, what is the CORRECT type of motor oil to use? I know there are oil ports on the head of the mixer and Sunbeam at one time in those days use to sell an oil bottle similar to what one would have used for a sewing machine. What grade is the motor oil? I don't believe it would be the 3-in-1 motor oil either.

I've used Meguiar's Car Cleaner-Wax on various appliances large and small with excellent results.

If this is an old model with white lettering on a black speed control, even if the lettering has yellowed it's best to leave that as is.  Attempting to clean up the lettering usually removes it instead.

I think the 3-in-1 oil that comes in a red and white can will work.  I'm pretty sure it's for sewing machines and likely meets requirements for your Sunbeam.  Zout/Zoom Spout turbine oil may be another option.  You should be able to find either one at ACE.

Thanks for the tips....3-in-1 oil in the red can is not recommended for sewing machines because I believe it has detergents in it which would attract more lint.

I will try to find Zout, but I don't want to thin the grease that is already in there. Thanks, though!

The blue and white can is the one-I think you are right! Do you know if in fact that the viscosity is the same as the original Sunbeam oil?

An appliance repair center in my area told me that sewing machine oil is OK but I don't think he is correct because it is not food grade lubricant. But then again, does it really matter? He even told me that the lighter 3-in-1 oil in the red can was OK to use.

The blue and white is a 20 weight oil blend.  I presume it's not the same thing as crankcase oil, but the can itself does not have an image of a sewing machine on it.  I don't have a red and white can, but that would have to be the one with a sewing machine on it.

Zoom Spout's verbiage states that it's non-detergent, so that may be the oil to go with.  It's designed for high heat conditions.

Thanks Guys!

I'll give it a try! Are there just the two oil ports on a model 11 Sunbeam Mixmaster?

Mixfinder dial

Some people use white crayon, others use white-out. Testor’s glossy white oil model paint is my favorite. I’ve used it on Mixmasters, Coffeemasters and waffle irons. Clean and dry the Mixfinder dial well. Generously apply the paint, wait a few minutes then buff. Good as new.
