My usual grocery store Shoppers Food Warehouse has three grades of LCB: Clorox, a store line called "Essentials" and then some least expensive brand called Shoppers Value Line. For a long time the Essentials has sold at the price of 2 half gallons for $3.00, then it went to $1.57 for a half gallon. Yesterday it was suddenly up to $1.87 for the half gallon so I checked out the Shoppers Value Line. It was $1.39. I could not find the percentage of sodium hypochlorite, but they both said to use the same amount so I bought the cheapest because I do not use it in any of the washers, but I am surprised at the sudden price jump. Has anyone else noticed an increase in the price of bleach or some other household cleaning product? Does this stuff come from places with tariffs?

I’ve noticed that bleach is more expensive, but then so is everything else now too. I’m used to the fact that everything is going up,like it or not. For instance, the 12 paks of Canada Dry Diet Ginger Ale that were $4.99 a little over a year age were $5.99 6 mo ago, then about 2 mo ago they went up to $6.99, and Thurs. when I went shopping at Target they ar now $7.49!

Me thinks that it’s the tariff on aluminum, that that troll Wilber Ross said would only cost the consumer about 1/2 a cent per can. Oh really Wilber? That would compute to 6 cents more for 12 cans, not a dollar fifty or more! Just one more lie of many.

Just one more lie of many

Eddie, let's hope against hope that the strategy of lying through your teeth gets blown to bits on Tuesday.  I don't even think the Russians or Chinese lie as consistently as our current illegitimate divider-in-chief does.

Be sure to read the labels on all bleach containers.  I was surprised to discover that Safeway's store brand has a much higher percentage of sodium hypochlorite than some name brands.  Don't go by recommended dosage.  Read the fine print.

Clorox's CEO was interviewed on CNBC this week, and as best I understand what he's saying, tariffs are not a big deal for them (except in their Brita water filter business) because they make most of what they sell here in the United States (starting at about 6:30 at the linked video).

He does say (starting at about 3:55) that logistics are becoming very costly due to a shortage of 50,000 truck drivers, AND (if you decipher the buzzwords) that they're pushing through price increases because their research shows their brands have a high perceived value by the consumer -- in other words, they'll sell just as much even at higher prices.

I've noticed at a few markets, including walmart that the prices for LCB are up. AND it seems like the % of active ingredient has gone down or is not listed. I remember the concentrated was something like 8% but it's just not listed now. And the store brand is back to 6%. But at least that claims to disinfect.

The Essentials that I was buying is listed at 6% sodium hypochlorite, which is higher than the bleach of my youth which seemed like it was more in the high 4 or low 5% range.

I rechecked the cheapest bleach and it is made by Supervalu of Eden Prairie, MN, but gives no concentration.
