I have a symphonique record player model 949.
When I turn it on, it keeps cycling through the ejection process. Can anyone help me out? Any suggestions? All I ever wanted to do is listen to some old records on a machine like the one I grew up playing. Thanks ahead of time.....

You may need to remove the turntable platter to work on it. Sounds like either the reject lever is stuck, or the cam that engages when the tone arm goes to the center is stuck. A little bit of lubrication on the mechanism ought to make things free up and work properly. automotive type grease is frequently used in most older turntables with metal gears.

Also, as much as possible of the old gummy grease should be removed with a solvent such as isopropyl alcohol, etc. before re-lubricating.

Tom,
Is it a Voice of Music 4 speed changer? If you take it from the case and turn it up side down you will be able to see the
mechanics that need cleaning and lubrication. Clean the old crud off and replace it with white lithium grease. Be sure to check the "linkage" of the record stabilizer arm and make sure it is thoroughly lubed. There are a few spots under
the platter that might need to cleaned and lubed also. It doesn't take a lot of time and usually that will correct that
problem.

thanks guys,.....

Ok I will try this. I unscrewed and removed the turntable mechanism. It does not look like it has ever had any lube. The metal gears are as clean as if they were put in this thing yesterday.
Where does one purchase lithium grease ?

Thanks !

It is operating great now ! I need to clean up the cabinet some, find a 45 adaptor for it. Sounding great too. The smell, LOL, I love the smell. Just like I remember it. Thanks again so much for your advice guys. Tom

Yes--I rtoo love that "old Record Player" smell-esp if the player is heated by a tube amp inside. And a Caurosel I rode on frequently-its building smell like an old record player.Glen Echo park in Wash DC area.

Smells like teen spirit

Congrats on getting your old rp working. Aren't they fun? Wait till you find a classic Magnavox changer with the Collaro mechanism. All those clicks and clunks and the mechanical action of the tonearm is just as fun as hearing the music.

I thought I was the only one

who loved that smell! It reminds me of being a kid, in the best way. That is right up there with the smell of department store candy counters, coffee, new car and leather. Or of course, eating department store candy while your dad had a cup of coffee in your new car with leather interior.

Tom, please PLEASE show us this unit. Really want to see it. I am not familiar with that brand at all.
