Tap-Icer-anyone heard of this?

I have one

It works quite well, but I rarely have patience for it. I just take my 3 pound cutlet bat, and a clean kitchen towel, and have at it.

Incidentally, although I inherited mine, no way are they worth much more than 8.00, and the person who has one at 40 something is hallucinating.

We had that exact "Tap Icer" one ever since I can remember. I say it's 50's vintage. My parents never owned a refrigerator with an ice maker, so the sound of my dad cracking ice was more or less an every-day-after-work thing. I remember feeling so adult when I used that thing because no matter who did it, it made the same adult sound, followed by the clink of the cracked ice landing in the highball glass. The sound of a ritual in progress at the bar in the den.

My partner used to scoff at me for using it when we'd be visiting Mom and having cocktails. He's just so crude and has no sense for the art of composing a mixed drink.

My sister asked if she could have the "Tap Icer" when we were cleaning things out a couple of years back, and since we have in-door crushed ice, I had no real use for it so off it went. It's missing almost all of its red paint. It's well-used. That NIB one is really tempting though. Come to think of it, my sister has in-door crushed ice too. She must enjoy using the "Tap Icer" for the same reasons as I do.

Goodwill

If the ones at that Goodwill look like the red-handled one, I'll buy one off you if you decide to go get them.

The later type that look different also sound different and don't do as good a job as the earlier design, and I've seen the later type in gadget sections of stores so those ebay ones are not all that unusual other than the packaging.

Yippee!

I won the old school one just like Dad used to have!

I think I got a deal. The BIN on one of the newer types was a ridiculous $44! I got mine for $9.49.
