Last year at this time;
John LeFever brought this stove to me. It is the same stove we had while growing up. It needed much cleaning before I could use it. The only thing I did not care for was the height of it. Too low. So my brother in law built a new cabinet, to match my cupboard. He built it 4 in. higher to be the same height as the dishwasher. I really like it at this height, the same as a regular stove. It works really well.
Thanks go to
John LeFever.

Great looking stove!

Did you have to do much to it? My cousin has that exact unit, I think he's down to one burner. Years ago he had someone out to look at it, told him it's have to be completely rewired. I don't know if I buy that but it does have issues. He has I believe a '62 aqua Coldspot frig with a bottom freezer sitting right next to it, both are original when his folks bought the house.

Are these hard to work on and get parts for?

John is great isn't he!When I lived in B'more and had a friend looking for a specific style of electric range,he was told about john and called asking me to come along as a consoltant.when John opened his garage door and I saw just a few of the many appliances he had aquired,I was pinching myself to see if that was real or I was dreaming.All the fabulous FRIGIDAIRE appliances I dreamed of seeing again were there at my sight to see and touch again.One day,after work,John called to see if he could bring me something over.i had a great huge apartment overlooking the downtown area including the harbor.As he came up,he brought a beautiful GE 40 inch electric double oven range and a Westinghouse roaster with the base!He hooked the range up and leveled it for me.I had never had an electric range and was imediately perverted---I mean,converted LOL.That range was great and got plenty of use.I also had a Westinghouse Laundromat DeLuxe washer and dryer set.We got to be instant friends.

I miss all of you already but,trust me,this new adventure I am on right now is such a great experience and I am meeting lots of wonderful people here!The dump one mile up the road is a good source for repairable washers,dryers and gas ranges.Yesterday,we had a b'party for Ed who owns and runs a smokehouse here.We got a wild boar last friday and he butchered it and cut it up to smoke it.We ate it last weekend and it was gone by monday!

I sold the Maytag set for $350.The adjustable feet,the belts,the drain and inlet hoses,the seal and tub break ,all replaced.The dryer was in eed of a new door handle.I cleaned the guts out and it needed no other repairs.They were harvest gold and washed up beautifuly.Before selling them,I had a free washday and 17 loads of different types of clothes were washed and dried.No failure and great performance.I gave the buyer a 90 day parts and labor guarantee

Beautiful cabinet work, that looks so good in your kitchen. My sister had a Tappan Fab 400 in the 30" version and ripped it out when the oven thermo went bad. I told her we could fix it but that was a the excuse she was looking for and it was gone.

They really were beautifully styled. Congrats, John!

Steve, I can see lots of good cooking in that beautiful range!! Congratulations!! Didn't you have a gas stove before? I bet you are going to really love the switch to Electric!!

MattL - rewiring is not that difficult!

It's even easier if you have the wiring diagram for the range! It may even be a case of bad connections at the burners (the folks original range - a 56 Frigidaire needed lots of work but I kept it running into the early 90's).
The aqua Coldspot fridge sounds amazing, too! I don't know how hard finding parts for either appliance may be, but I have found a few good sources while restoring my 1956 GE kitchen centre!! Don't let your cousin get rid of either of these appliances...

Chuck, I still remember the photos of those westinghouse laundry pair, and some of your other appliances, in an article published about you years ago that showed up via wire services in the Houston Chronicle. My mom found it.

Beautiful looking range and cabinet Steve! A nice custom job that goes very well with your kitchen decor. So this is the "keeper" for quite a while? I remember you had a very nice looking vintage gas stove in your other house.
