Some delicious pictures for a cold night and a traditional MN recipe.

Tater-Tot hotdish

Ingredients:  1.5LB ground beef

2TBL minced onion

1 can each Cream of Mushroom/Chicken

1 cup milk

Season salt, pepper, garlic to taste

1TSP Worcestershire.

1 8oz bag shredded cheddar.

1.5 bag TaterTots or Crispy Crowns (30oz)

1 small can whole kernel corn.

Method:

1.  Brown off burger and onion in a sauté pan and drain 1/2 of fat

2.  Prepare sauce using soups, milk, Worcestershire and spices.

3.  Place potatoes, corn and meat in a buttered 9x13 Pyrex pan.

4.  Pour sauce over mixture in pan and stir slightly.

5.  Cover mixture with cheese

6.  Dot top with Crispy Crowns.

7.  Bake @350f for 65-70 Min.

You should end up with this.

Nick

both dishes and the cake look yummy! Can you clarify the Tater tot hot dish with regard to recipe step 3. Please bear with me I'm unclear on the potatoes!

It states:

3. "Place potatoes, corn and meat in a buttered 9x13 Pyrex pan".

when you say potatoes, you are referring to the Tater Tots correct?

Also, you top the dish with remaining or more Tater tots? Looks like 40 or so on top.

Thanks...Leslie

Correct on both counts

The potatoes  I refer to are the tots and top the dish with additional Crispy Crowns.  BTW I made this dish At a resort in Siesta Key for a potluck lunch.  I was the only one there from MN and no one else knew what it was.  Once they tried it they all loved it.

Thanks

we have Tater Tots but not Crispy Crowns. Appreciate the recipes and the explanation they look great. We love Siesta Key and Sarasota............lots of midwesterners thereabouts!

Leslie

If "Crispy Crowns" are what I think they are- they are a "smushed" version of a tater tot. Same kind of deal like a tot but flattened and round.

Crispy Crowns:

A.k.a. Potato Olés, dear to the hearts of Midwesterners in areas served by Taco John's.

TJ's fries 'em up crisp, seasons them with what seems to be Lawry's, and sells them by the truckload. They are so addictive I don't see how hard drugs ever got a foothold here.

TJ's also sells little cups of nacho cheese dipping sauce or sour cream to dunk your Olés into. No one dares tell the Baptists about this, because they'll declare it a sin.

Sandy- What's the world a commin' to?

First I stumble across some sinners in Strawberry Plains (50613- Shopper's) fer Tag Tossin!

And now we find out there's more sinners in the Midwest a sauce dippin' them there tot's n crown's!

OHHH NO!! More Blasphemer's! ;) lmao

What's gonna happen next?

Oh, BTW....Somebody pass me the tot's please! hehehehehe

My village in the southwestern corner of the state was locked down for a blizzard today, so I made pot roast, too! Blizzard comfort food. Yours looks great, Nick. Corn in Tater Tot Hotdish?! You city boys and your radical ideas...

I love to work in the kitchen and watch the out-of-doors white-out.
