Tattoo You?

I find tattoos a complete turn off no matter how small or well hidden. They just look cheesy no matter how well drawn and it's so far opposite from expressing ones individuality to be laughable these days. The last thing I think when someone shows me a tattoo is how kewl they are. A mindless sheep comes to mind. Much the same with piercings.

My sister got a boo-boo (long neck) kitty put on her hip. Now as she is getting older and wider boo-boo kitties neck is getting longer and longer. Pretty soon she'll have to have it redone as a giraffe.

I have one buddy who's got 3/4 inch ear tunnels in both ears. Hot.

too many people are doing *body mod* because they think it makes them *daring* or modern. tattos can be sexy (on men) if its part of your nature...

Practical tattoos?

I considered a small tattoo on my upper chest to cover a scar. Before getting the tattoo I tried a plastic surgeon who faded that old scar so well that it is now invisible. (How boring is that?)
However, can one use tattoos to cleverly enhance areas of the body that perhaps....need it??

I had always sort-of wanted a tattoo... When in Toronto with Joe last summer, I had such a great time and fell madly in love with the city; I decided to get something totally Canadian! I'm so glad I have it! See my pictures below.

Not sure if I'll get any more, though. I may do something vacuum-related... as that's something which is part of my life and I doubt will ever not be. I do like tattoos on others--in moderation. But, that can also depend on the person... some people wear them better than others. Joe has 8 tattoos and wants more!

I also have my left nipple pierced. Got that done about 3 years ago. Wasn't too horribly painful. Like someone said above..it was more the moment it happened than anything. Just took Tylenol to keep the throbbing/sensitivity down for a few days. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that girls look a lot better without tattoos! Something about them that looks "trashy", but then again, that's just my opinion...

I think that tattoos reflect the person wearing it. Everyone deserves the choice to have one if they choose. After all this IS America and it is about choice. If you like it then that is all that matters.

However, I think (just my two cents) that anyone that wears a tattoo openly is looked down upon in society. I know that if a person was approaching me and showing tattoos, I think right away...trailer trash. As a teacher, I often get parents in with them showing. We have a saying among the staff that if a parent has more than 5 tattoos showing then they are pretty rough. We know that they are not good for the body. They are expensive...some folks don't have important things for their children like FOOD and CLOTHES but are covered in expensive tattoos. Also my dad has the marine corps bulldog on his right bicep...they don't age well people!! (Who wants to see a wrinkled faded bulldog?) And as for a tattoo on a woman...street bait! I would divorce my wife if she got one!

Again it is your choice...it is America. With life so difficult, why make it more so?

Being "in the minority" around here(along with at least Tom and Jason lol) I would have to say whilst they dont appeal to me I guess on guys its a case of if its what ya want go for it- think anything on the face or anywhere that cant be covered easily is kinda stupid tho!.
On Women though- NO!!!!!!!! I cant think of anything that can change my opinion of an otherwise attractive woman as quickly. Glad im not alone on this one , thought it was me being picky lol!!

And I really will try and watch what I say regarding this thread.......I'll try to be *nice*.
I have 4. *gasp!* One...everyone would see. The other 3 you can't see...
I have a total of 7 piercings in both ears, and a belly button ring, I had done on my 40th birthday...
BIG DEAL...
I work in the corporate world...downtown, suits...etc..and only ONCE did I have someone tell me the Tat on my left hand would hinder my ability to get a job in the field. (I think I wanted to be a flight stewardess at the time)
I've had an interesting life so far, to say the least. YES, I rode Harleys....in the 80's...and WITH A CLUB...OMG...I also had a cool 1/4 of a million dollars in the bank back then, so does that make me a bad person? (It was legal money)
Please don't judge folks by their tats, and piercings...except I think the face stuff goes a little to far...
And if you want to see some SERIOUS piercings...I have some very interesting photos from the Solstice Parade in Santa Barbara, LOL
In life....there are far more serious things to worry about..

Rights and Privaledges

If nothing else, I hope this sight had empowered us to make our own choices and not feel a need to justify it to others. Some tattoes are truly a work of art.
Having a tatto is a bit like having a sex change. Once you have made the choice, there is no turning back. I have bought, sold and traded every possession I ever owned and have constantly evolved in personal style, so my wardrobe and furnishings are all on a revolving door policy.
I would be afraid to make a choice that comes with a daily visual reminder for the rest of my life.
No turning back now!

Speaking personally, and as I mentioned before, generalizing is not a good thing to do, but no matter how good a person we think we are, we tend to do it.

Please don't take any offense. I don't know you, but you seem to be a really neat person, judging from your posts, your taste, and your outlook on life!

I've got a celtic cross just below my sholder on my arm. It has the trinity rings behind it with colors radiating out of it. Sort of looks like the art glass window at my church.

It covers up a scar that I got when I was younger from a surfing accident. I landed sideways on that arm on the beach, and got pushed up the beach by the surf, leaving sort of a "skinned knee" on my sholder. I got the cross done to cover it up, because everyone always asked questions as to how I got that mark there. Luckily, it's high enough that even a short-sleeve shirt covers it and I have no problem at work. Most people there didn't even know I had it till I had shown some.
