I applaud SQ for doing this. I'm hoping that some miracle will happen and people will start buying machines based on how they're are made, not how they look on the outside. 

 

Only thing that catches my eye besides the SQ is the capacitor and its mount on the GE, everything else is

I saw the video, and I'm curious about how Speed Queen stacks up to GE and Maytag in terms of their drive system and suspension.

Being a Speed Queen video, there's likely a bit of bias toward the other 2 machines in there (Which, of course, helps their machine to look good). It would be better if this experiment were coming from a proper, honest-hearted, repair guy in my opinion. Still a cool video though!

I saw the pump teardown, and it was very telling about the simplicity and quality they have. Next, I'd like to see the drive system, including the motor.

all 3 of those pumps are craptastic-only decent "magnetic"pump I have experienced is the Italian made"plaset"brand one in my '98 Neptune,The Ascoll pump in my '01 HE3 is ok. That GE is very similar to a VMW

A real drain pump is driven by a 1/2 HP induction motor.

The Speed Queen top loaders have a real drain pump. I just don't like the early spray rinse and the low speed spin before the rinse and after wash.

I would take the Speed Queen any day of the week, especially how sturdy they are.

If only Maytag would come back with the helical design with a pitman transmission.

If Maytag were still around, the Maytag in Newton Iowa that is, they’d probably have such a huge market share since their machines could easily be repaired and would easily last 20 to 30+ years. Even if Whirlpool beefed up their VMW machines along it’s the rest of the machines that are out there, they still couldn’t compete with the legendary Maytag helical machines. Only thing that probably would be different is they’d probably would use an inverter motor similar to the one Robert hot rodded back in 2019.

If everyone was like me, the Maytag Helical design would be found in 90% of all washers sold today. I hope that that one day in the future this becomes a reality.

A good portion of the public can get away with a front loader if used correctly. If one works at home/office job and their hobbies include gaming and watching TV, there's zero reason to own a top loading washer.

I agree with this. It's what I plan to do once my direct drive Whirlpool top loader becomes unrepairable. There's not a top load washer on the market today, sans the Speed Queen TC5, that's worth much in cleaning performance or reliability. A front loader is the way to go if buying new.

I wish GE was still making Filter-Flos' and these as well. I think this WBSE3120B1WW model is my all time favorite GE washing machine along with the matching DBXR463EB0WW dryer at my cousin's cabin.
