I just picked up a box of Tesco own-brand bio tablets and colour tablets. I have also tried their concentrated powders. While they wash quite well and provide good results I cannot stand the scent they've chosen.

It seems to be like artificial tiger lily. It's not unpleasant, but it's certainly not how I would expect a laundry product to smell and I found the odour on my clothes really unpleasant. It's like some perfume that an old lady would use.

It's back to Persil tablets for me!

Anyone else find it that repulsive or do I just have a sensitive nose?

It's possibly the most disgusting washing powder scent I

I'd compare it more to cheap deodorant or bad after shave, and it's so strong and overpowering even after being rinsed out really well.

It's damn hard to wash or rinse out.

You can still STRONGLY smell it after:

Actually I think you possibly have the best reference there. It's a bit like Old Spice!!

3 rinses in the aqualtis at high level + a 4th with Comfort Tropical Citrus. You can't even smell the comfort over the Tesco detergent odour.

What were they thinking when they used that scent!??!

I have some Tesco bio / colour tabs from months ago and like the scent. From your description, they simply MUST have changed the scent recently, possibly when they changed to `no phosphate' formula. I always found the scent to be not that strong, and a very typical `detergent' smell though nothing to write home about. If I had to compare the scent, I'd say it was a little like the standard Ariel liquid one. I also found it easily coverable even with comparatively weak softeners like Comfort Pure and Fairy.

I wonder if anyone has dared to try the new `Daisy' line of powder and FS from Tesco? It's one of their new `budget brands'. We've been buying loo rolls, bread, cornflakes etc from the budget brands and it's all been fine. And Daisy floor cleaner (65p for a huge thing) is as good as Flash. So maybe the Daisy stuff might be ok?

I haven't bought any of the `no phosphate' Tesco tabs yet. How do you guys find it rinses? The old phosphated tabs were great rinsers - almost to Persil standards.

Which detergent and FS smells are we all liking these days, anyway, British contingent? Apart from Ariel Excel Gel which we know all about. Mrs NickUK has expressed a liking for Bold (Lavender and Camomile). So, I use that quite a bit at the moment with a drop of the matching Lenor, only when needed for static control. Am also using Ariel bio tabs and Bold Blue tabs. Though I don't rate the rinsing of the P/G tabs, my new washing machine really dislikes Persil tabs as the detergent seems to smear all round the door glass and boot, and then wash in during the rinses! They also don't disolve well on a low temp quick cycle and I'm not keen on the new bio or non bio scents.

Well if it turns out the Tesco tabs do have a new scent and they no longer rinse ok, I guess they have nothing going for them anymore and I won't restock.

They are, by the way, made by Persan in Spain who is the largest detergent producer for that country. I think Tesco tabs are basically `Puntomatic' tabs (yeah, I know, sounds like a new Fiat without stick shift) - take a look at the website and you'll see the similarity.

Cheers

Nick

They rinse out very well and perform very well generally, the only downside is that they smell gross.

The appear to only use amalyse so, I doubt they're as good at digesting stains as persil or Ariel.

Also, Persil and Ariel Colour both contain cellulase, so you do avoid bobbling.

You need a barcode + batch number to get the info.

Personally I'm a fan of Persil + comfort either pure or tropical lime in terms of scent anyway.

I HATE TESCOS WASHING TABLETS

SURF TROPICAL IS THE WAY FORWARD!!
