Toggleswitches are the source of a lot of pain and heartache
The lady who shipped it to me filed a claim with FedEx although I really don't believe it to be FedEx's fault THIS TIME. We'll see what happens. Now she admits to having shipped a "few" items that have broken in transit.
Frigilux, I'm glad you got the DVDs back safe and sound. My 6 month project has finally ended and today was my first vacation day since Christmas. I don't know what to do with my self.

Believe it or not, I bought a (new) Oster cast metal mixer about three or four years ago, but never used it. I just liked the way it looked. This thread kind of worked on me, so today I cleaned it, added three scoops vanilla, 1/2 cup cold milk, and 2 tbs chocolate syrup, and had my first ever homemade chocolate shake. Yum.
OK, it's not a vintage machine, but at least it's cast metal, and not that plastic junk that is also sold under the Oster name these days.
Best part - no toggle switch to break off. Instead, you turn the top of the motor casing to switch between Low-Off-High.

Didn't some of the cup type immersion type spindle blenders have a switch on the part where you rested the cup to start the machine-put the cup on the holder-it starts and remove it and the machine stops.Those do make the best malts and shakes-better than a regular blender-guess the open cup and the design on the spindle blenders blades allow it to whip more air into the drink.I saw the cup activated machine at Waffle House-they use it to scramble eggs and making pancake-waffle batter-seems to work well for those jobs.The machine hangs by the waffle machines.
Well, this modern Oster has a safety switch, at the top of the cup, where the motor will not start until the cup is pressed upwards against the swich. I'm actually not too fond of that feature, as it means you can't vary the height of the little aeration disks in relation to the cup. But there is a low speed for getting things going, which I guess is supposed to substitute for the manual "milking" of the shake machine.
