I had been trying to find the original rollers for the 63 GE V-12 dryer that I picked up this spring but the search was getting me nowhere fast. John (combo52) had been telling me for a while that I should replace the rollers with glides. Well, finally I listened... LOL I ordered a set (along with a whole bunch of parts for the leaky GE V-12 washer!) and picked them up at my favourite freight broker in Vermont on Friday.

They were really easy to install. Heck, even I was able to do it... LOL

Here's the drum back in place. I will admit it took a few tries to get the clearance just right... I didn't want to put a strain on the rear bearing from leaning down. I used a precision instrument (a pen...) to measure the clearance, but I did get it right eventually!

YAY PAULand CONGRATS and great job on the repair!   Yes it sounds 300% better now!

So that's all it was making ALL that racket was the bad rollers, or was there something else bad too?

YAY Paul on the sucessful conversion to Drum slides

The older slide kits used to even come with a template that showed exactly where to drill the mounting holes and I am sure if one were to study the service notes in 1960s service manuals one could find the directions to do this conversion.

These slides always worked pretty well on GE dryers because of the smooth hard porcelain drum finish, but unfortunately MT, Norge, SQ-Amana and the current GE dryers where they are running the slides against non-porcelain surfaces have never had great long term durability.
