Not My Favorite Color? Ha Tim! Its my LEAST favorite color! But its a great find. Hope it works out well for you, now how many 1-18's does that make?

Wow.

Good find for a free washer. When I read the heading of this thread, I was ready to take off my glasses so I wouldn't see the dirt and grunge I figured would be there. From what I can see, it is fairly clean, albeit it does have some grunge, and has not a scratch on it. Hopefully the squeak is a minor issue, and not a sign of anything more.

My father's cousin had a 1-18 like that in white, and she would fill it with ice and drinks when she threw parties.

Have a good one,
James

Ooo - free, the best kind! Looks to be in pretty good shape too. Picked up a 1-18 about 2 years ago, around this time - and was also frozen too. Didn't help that the water was gross before freezing. You'll enjoy this one ~

Congrats on the find. The machine looks like it needs just a little TLC and elbow grease to restore it.

I had a very similar one I purchased in 1976. I totally loved it, but moved and sold it with the house. I should have kept it, but heck, there would always be time to buy another. After all, what's more likely to be around for a long time than a division of General Motors?

This was in 1979. When I went washer shopping for the latest and greatest 1*18 a couple of years later, I was shocked to find out that GM no longer made the Frigidaire line of appliances. My favorite washer had been replaced. I was so angry, I stomped out of the appliance store, got into my Oldsmobile, and drove off.

looks like a WIA which is a two speed Imperial model.I love the fabrics selecter! It would select the agitation and spin speeds and wash and rinse temperatures.

This model and the next one up the line (TOL) are the most versatile washers ever made. You'll LOVE it! Congrats! Please let us know if this is a WI, WIA or a WCI model.

Great Find

Congratulations! Another 1-18 saved. Hopefully the squeak is a minor issue. Start by cleaning the roller mating surfaces with lighter fluid. The belts on these machines usually are a little loose but that seems normal. Observe it in operation to see if it's slipping at all before tightening. Best of luck.

Ahhhh HA!

The Problem is discovered looks like the center part of this pulley is mounted in rubber Why? I don't know because everyone of these machines I've heard running is noisy.

Thats a common problem with the 1-18 motor pulleys, Tim. When I was working for Brightwood Appliance, I must have changed hundreds of those.......but of course back then they were still an available part. Philco Blades of Water washers used a similar design. Ive changed them to a standard pulley without the internal rubber mounting with no bad results. Lets face it, the 1-18's are never going to be a quiet machine........ Try a local hardware store OR a Farm & Dairy supply place. They usually have a host of pulleys available for sale.........

Thanks Jimmy!

I knew you had no doubt dealt with this dilemma before As Always I'll take your advice! Thanks again

nice find! Looks like that pulley will be a relatively easy repair. That's a good lookin machine, and has the best price on it too!

The Story Gets Better!

Had been searching for a pulley that would work but never thought I'd find this....At my local Appliance Repair Shop
