The buzzards are swarming now for Sears.

Dismal

Sears here @ Boynton Beach Mall is one that is surely in a death rattle.  I only go there to have watch batteries replaced (I collect novelty watches, so there's always a couple that need batteries).  I think the watch concession is strictly a vendor operation, though they always have me make out my check to "Sears".

The watch counter is next to the appliance/mattress area.  Walking through here is like marching through a FL swamp without insect repellent.  Sales personnel will be over you like white on rice!  "Oh, but while you're waiting, just take a look..."

There's no stink like the one of desperation.

The appliances, vacuums, and bedding departments are, from my understanding, the only salespeople still on straight commission.  So yeah, the pressure...

People who work  on straight commish choose to live that life.  It's a variant of gambling some people like.

Interesting now that J.C. Penny's is selling appliances again. I went into a store last week that was selling them, the appliance department was small and they had a small but good selection of models to choose from. I didn't notice any BOL models. I wonder if the situation with Sears had anything to do with their decision.

JCP

I was in a Penney's for my first time in several years last week. Needed some drapes. For sure, their selection was just 'better' than Sears or HD or BB&B. Wise choice.
They were remodeling too, and I must say, it was looking nicer than usual.
I'd certainly give JCP more chances in the future when I need things.
Good for them.

I was holding on for a while with Sears Hardware, but I'm done with them too. Most of them have closed. The last few are kinda weird, poor selection.
Much rather go to ACE now.
Bye Sears.

Gates has made similar type investments in stores like Home Depot.

I doubt Kmart/Sears is going out of business.  They are still the 5th largest in the U.S. in terms of sales.

I wonder what percentage of Whirlpools sales are dependent on Sears.

I heard about that financial deal with Sears last week. A Sears spokesman also added "In one form or another, Sears will always be around." Maybe they are changing into an internet business? Just a guess.

IMHO, I have done better shopping at Sears for mens casual clothing than anywhere else lately. JCP has switched its line and now it's very confusing when I enter the store at Solomon Pond Mall in Marlboro. The Sears in the same mall was quite busy yesterday (they had a friends and family day event). The staff was friendly and the bargains were everywhere.

I hope Sears can hang on for my lifetime. I also shop online quite a bit, but I prefer to see my clothing in person.

Little Rock closing

No surprise...a few post above someone said something about there never being more than 10 cars in the parking lot, lights off, poor selection. Same story here. There is another Sears on the North side of town that will remain open; the store is in a mall so I would assume they're locked in a lease for a while. The closing store is free standing. From what I've been told they have already started merchandise close out pricing. Yeah...it's sad..just like others who have commented..it was part of my growing up...everything from the clothes on our back to the washing machine came from Sears. In fact the entire family on both sides were the same..so we're talking several generations of Sears shoppers. To be honest I don't even think my parents "shopped around" for the best price/deals..they just shopped "the Sears" store. Sad day, but understandable.

http://little Rock to close

As I've asked/said before:

"Where will our college professors shop at?...  Seems as though they won't have or will no longer have this "retailer/goods & services-example" for the curriculum during their lectures to shove down our throats!

I don't know what brand of clock radio, or whatever personal effects, will be in their office(s)/adjunct faculty room either...

The end?

The attached link is for a CNN Money article from this morning. Things have gotten worse at Sears, and now they are looking at selling the Craftsman and Kenmore lines. How much longer can this go on?

Again, sad. I just bought an air conditioner at Sears...and got my eye exam there. Everyone was super nice and I really enjoyed the experience. Also went to KMart for the first time in years. Store was kinda rundown but again, employees were very friendly.

But like the article said, all retail is doing poorly.
