After waiting three weeks for delivery, my new Kenmore (nee)Fridgidaire 97922 "laundry center" came last Thurs. SO was home to take delivery (my mistake) anyway, delivery dude saw that dryer light worked and washer would fill and left. SO calls me and says the unit won't work. He calls Sears, delivery guys come back and say yep, it pooped the bed. Delivery guys call Sears, they'll send tech out next day. Next day Sears calls, no tech till Monday. Monday comes and only an hour and half late tech comes. "Must be the house wiring", I said no it isn't. "has to be". He gets meter out, it's not the house wiring. "must be new cord", wrong again. "the delivery weasels hooked it up wrong". This thing is big and heavy so tech tilts it out from the top and has me hold the pos while he checks cord. It's not wired wrong. Tech now starts to pull it apart. Takes it down to the frame, dryer drum out, all wiring exposed. "AhHa, cries gleefully, it is a loose connection where power supply splits to w and d. Two hour later it's up and running. Except tech forgot to put belt back on dryer. Apart it comes. Now it's really fixed. I start load while he tries to make his computer print. Seems to be taking forever to fill. "It is very large and your water pressure is low". I believe and he leaves. Start load all is well except two hours later still filling on rinse. It is now draining and filling at the same time. Call Sears they're bringing a new one on Thurs. Damn, I miss the Danbys.

Siphon break anyone?

The drain hose needs to be at least a yard/meter above the floor or the machine may drain by gravity.

It may work fine most of the time, but should it start draining and is stopped (manually), the siphon action may continue to empty the machine.

Could be...

...but the last one of these I worked on had an electric pump. If it went frigtarded, it could leave the pump on, conceivably, even if the main motor wasn't activated.

Roto, I'm hoping the new one will be OK. I had an earlier model in my last house and was pleased with it. Of course, I could wash in real hot water in that one! I hope someone can help me pimp it, so that it will fill all the way and teach me how to bypass the thermister that dumbs the temps down.

What happened

to the Danby's? Mine are still going but I need a handle for the washer door (partner broke it).

OHM, the washer had started to leak somewhere near the front. I successfully ignored it, but it got progessively worse. Decided to put a overflow pan under it, but it was also starting to make a grinding noise on spin and really dimming the lights when it tried to spin (motor brushes?). Could not find any service people anywhere close to home so, decided to get new. It had gotten kinda old (so have I) bending over to look in drum. Went back to TL.

The CAN-more is doing well. Dryer is very quiet and quick. Washer will only fill to what I would call 3/4 tank, but you can hold the level knob to reset and fill that puppy up. The wiring diagram shows only two wires going to thermister for water dumbing. Anybody got any ideas on making it impotent?

The Can-more can stay!

The replacement for the dead unit is showing promise. I must admit I like the sound the washer makes, it sounds like a real washer! The dumbing down of the hot water is not as bad as I thought. Really like the capacity and speed. The dryer can dry a large load in 30-40 min. and the washer is way faster than the Danbys.

They're not a bad machine.....

....I wouldn't go back to one, but our laundry center served us for several years, and it was included (used) when I bought the house.
