Pour a Coke over your car battery terminals if they're corroded. It supposed to eat the corrosion.

Arm & Hammer is good for indegestion and heartburn. 1 tsp to a glass of water. It will probably make you belch but it seems to help me.

For nasal and sinus congestion, don't forget grated horseradish AKA the Jewish Dristan.

To eliminate irritation from mosquito and gnat bites, immediately wet the area with water, sprinkle meat tenderizer on the bite and rub it well to help it dissolve. When it begins to dry, rub in a few more drops of water. By the time it dries, the anticoagulation enzyme the bug injected has been neutralized and the bite probably won't itch again. If it does, repeat.

Jason---funny you should mention that particular use for Coke. In an effort to prove that it wasn't fit for a small child to drink, he'd pour a bottle over the car's battery terminals and I'd watch in horror as it ate away the accumulated acid. But by the next time my older sister and I would find ourselves at the lunch counter at Woolworth's, I'd be over it and begging for an icy cold Coke with my burger.

And we should clarify you mean Arm & Hammer BAKING SODA---not the laundry detergent--- can be used to relieve heartburn. Hey, you never know with this crowd, LOL!

If you ever get anything sticky on your hands (watch it, boys!) like tree sap or adhesive, rub baby oil on it and it'll wash right off.

Glass Cleaner

Mix 1/2 cup sudsy ammonia, 1 pint cheap rubbing alcohol, 1 tsp mild (hand)dishwashing liquid, and water to make 1 gallon in an old (well rinsed) jug. Works better than most commercial window cleaners, and costs only a penny or two an ounce. Also great for greasy, sticky messes.

Glass Cleaner Formula

Years ago, Consumer Reports did a test on glass cleaners. To prove that you were not buying much, they came up with that formula which I have used for a couple of decades. The next time they tested glass cleaners, they said that they all were better than the homemade product that they had advocated before. I don't recall any great chemical breakthrough in the years between the reports so I continue using the home brew. When I find a fly in a window, I always check for a small human head and then spray a flood of this. It wets down the wings immediately and the alcohol does them no good. They fall and I use a paper towel to pick them up and clean the window.

If I have something dangerous like a wasp, I spray it with hairspray. The alcohol paralyzes them and the lacquer coats the body with a hold that just won't quit.

It was so sad in the movie when the fly got caught in the spider's web and was calling for help. I just want to make sure it's a fly I'm killing.

The other really useful thing is the central vacuum. See insect, grab the "Slinky hose," insert in wall port, turn on and suck up insect. Our Jason the vacuum wizard from Florida then Georgia and now of Maryland found this neat "Slinky" central vac hose in a catalog and asked if I wanted to try one, so I bought it. It's maybe 3 feet long and very heavy, but it stretches to something like 9 or 10 feet, so it's handy for "sudden situations." It's the only hose without a sleeve or cover. I named the 30 foot hose Anaconda because the patterned & zippered cover makes it look like a fat snake.

Dawn Diswashing Liquid

In the winter, when your porch and steps are icy, mix 7-8 drops of dawn in a gallon of warm water, and pour over porch and steps. This prevents ice from forming, thus preventing falls.

Dish detergent and shampoo are so similar that for years professional hairdressers used Rosewater Vels detergent (poured from gallon jugs into unmarked squeeze bottles) as a rose-scented shampoo. Each $5.00 shampoo netted about $4.98 profit.

coke or pepsi

My father was a travling salesman for years. He swore by pouring a coke or pepsi on the windowshield everyweekend. He said it cut all the road grim and dead bugs off the windowsheild.

Also...everyother month or so I put baking soda on my car battery, followed by a splash of water...it removes all the dried battery acid...after it stops foaming I pour more water on the battery and it's speck and span!!/mark
