Coffee Maker

Tolivac: The Coffee Maker is a Sunbeam Coffee Master. They came out in the 50's. My mom bought one with her Christmas bonus. The coffee maker was purchased around 1958-1959. It cost around $30.00 back then which was a lot of money. I recently got one on e-bay. They have loads of them out there. By the way, the coffee maker makes very good coffee. It is a vacummn pot, the water is heated in the bottom then rises to the top section where it brews. Then the pot switches to log, (automatically), then the coffee goes to the bottom pot and stays warm.

Sunbeam C-series coffeemakers.....

make the best and hottest coffee in the world! No coffee lover should be without one! I've been "unplugged" all week. I've been using a Bodum coffee press. The coffee is good, but but because there is no heater, doesn't stay hot for long. I am forced to nuke it in the radarange.
 
thanks rayjay,retromom:Now I may even look for one--just to look at-or---maybe even try some coffee.Sounds like the unit had to be heated on the stove-it didn't have a built in element.Did Sunbeam build any of the "C" machines as a standalone unit with its own heating element so you didn't have to use the stove?like the idea of the vacuum brewing-sounds simple-dependable.

Those Sunbeams had their own heating elements built in the lower pot. That's what makes them so great! First of all, they are stainless steel so you can't crack/break them. You just plug them in and turn them on; fully automatic!

You need to scour the flea markets and ebay for one. Just make sure the gasket is soft and pliable, otherwise you will never be able to connect the top and bottom units for a proper vacuum seal. My suggestion is to look for a C-50, which is a later model. They use an o-ring for a gasket that is easily removed and replaced!

Well, we received a Rumba for Christmas. This came from my sister who had already heard how happy we were with our Miele Red Star. Go figure
Personally, I think of this thing more as a toy to keep the dogs occupied with. I was shocked when I found out how expensive these things are! We used it a few times and all it amounts to is a very expensive carpet sweeper. After three uses the little yellow bearings came out of it and got lost, so it's down. My sister seems to think that it should be just as good as a Miele! It is rather entertaining to watch and it does pick up tons of dog hair.
I think the concept of it is this, you don't use it to clean your house, you use it to keep an already clean house stay cleaner a day or two longer. My sister just moved into a new house and she said after she got her own Rumba she gave away her Kirby! She said the Rumba will keep things just as clean.
Now REALLY go figure!

Retromom, I totally agree with you. Those C-30's make the best coffee! Unfortunately, ours broke last week. When we went to remove the top half after brewing a pot, the seal split in half. It was a very even break along a horizontal axes right through the seal. We tried using a high strengnth high temperature two part expoxy on it, it held for two brewings before it split again. We glued it again, but it leakes air so it doesn't get a full vacuum and doesn't work right. We picked up a Cusinart unit to replace it with, but even that doesn't make as good a cup as the Coffeemaster does.
Does the C-50 make just as good a cup? Our C-30 is in almost like new condition and I hate to just put it away just because the seal broke. I am tempted to buy a "beater" C-30 on Ebay just to get another seal.

The C-50 is really the same coffeemaker. Sunbeam made it more atomic looking than its art deco predecessors. I think that they are much easier to use because of the "ears" that guarantee a tight seal.

I don't know what to tell you about your C-30. I always like to have spare parts myself. Sometimes you find orphaned top and/or bottom pots on e-bay. I have not attempted to change a seal on any of my coffeemasters. I do know that some members could use some seals for their C-30's.

About the Kitchenaid mixer

I gave my mom that same model for Christmas a few years ago, its a great mixer.
 
Retromom:thanks for the infor on the sunbeam coffee machines-will have to tryo to find one.Just as well its a contained unit-no stovetop to run it.I would figure the c50 gaskets could be obtained from a restaurant equipment supplier.They have all types of food grade gaskets for various kitchen machines.That would be a good place to look for gaskets for kitchen equipment.
Whirlcool: I have seen Rumbas at various stores--give away a Kirby for a Rumba?? No way in my book.The Rumba will NEVER deep clean the way a Kirby will. The Rumba is not much more than a Bissel type sweeper with a motorized brush,and a small suction fan on a robotic platform.The Rumba is not a "true" vacuum cleaner.It would be an interesting device to use WITH your vacuum-but not replace it.The doco on them says NOT to use them on deep pile carpet-my home is loaded with it.
Compact9: I have some of the Royals you show in your second picture-The Blue Royal Power tank did VERY well in cleaning out transmitters where I work.And I could store it in my locker in between uses-MUCH better than the Shop Vacs they normally use.I didn't mind getting bags-could vacuum out a few of the transmitters before the bag filled-and that machine slurped up "grease balls" from around the tuning chains without clogging!Grease balls are the lube greasefor the tune chains and dust and lint getting into the transmitter-sucked in by the main blower.The transmitter acts as a "vacuum cleaner" on its own.I used to have one of those grey "Commercial Royal Tanks" but traded it in long ago-Now I REGRET it!Mine most of been like yours-it didn't have a powernozzle-a manual carpet tool and a bare floor tool along with the regular hand tools.also the 3 wire cord to meet OSHA safety regs.I also have a "Prince" Royal hand vac just like what you show.Great little machine-the best hand vac built-too bad the idiot new owners of Royal discontinued them!They also discontinued those great Royal canister-"torpedos"They replaced them with a PLASTIC Oriental style machine with dinky hand tools-good only for car cleaning or electronics cleaning.
