Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

John!

I am so glad to see you enjoying your complete collection and that I was able to help you get it there. You have been a great friend all along helping me when I got started collecting Bendix Combos! And you helped me get the first Bendix model just this year!! The beauty 1938 standard model I just love !!

I know "Flora" is in a good loving home and I will get out to see her run with her sisters soon!

-And it was Duo-nice snuggling with you at the Wedding too!

Lot's of Duomatics came in as trades. I distinctly remember one in particular, the 1958 model pictured above. It looked like it just came out of the box. One of the service guys was a big Duomatic fan from years past so he took it home for his wife Ann. She had one of the early models back in Providence and she was delighted, almost as if you had bought her a new car. The machine (electric) needed no repairs and worked perfectly. She said it looked "patriotic" with it's red, white & blue lights. I was glad it got saved from the scrap guy, an automatic fate of any traded-in combo washer/dryer.

wow!

These old American machines blow me away, such styling and obvious build quality, they are beautiful and functional and just bloody great

Well done on getting all these together they are dream machines as are a lot of other American machines.

Bloody lovely

ALL THE MACHINES ARE SO AWESOME.....

I don't know where to look first.

I love the thought of a Duo-Matic.
If I ever get to the point of
looking for one, I would definitely
look for a Bendix.

Best of luck with the Whole Family.

Louis :)

(holding breath)

...(exhaling)....these are incredible - I like the 57 and 58's. I've never seen these combos, as many other older washers, in such clean condition...thanks for posting and wow.

GREAT pics of BEAUTIFUL machines!!!

it's hard to pick out a favorite but if i had to, it would have to be the first one. i really dig on that door!!! i like the ornament/handle going across the window like that.

thank you for sharing. i don't know much about front loaders, but i LOVE all your duo-matics!!!

:o)

Bombig! (wow)

It's truly sad that these are so rare because most were scrapped. (?) Are there any more around? You have been collecting for a long time, you experienced collectors. Where are all these duomatics? These were no doubt high end appliances at the time, so not many were purchased, guessing.

I'm signing up for mental rehabilitation; sensory overload. My favorite is the CD-788.

Nice set of special appliances, congratulations and thanks for sharing the girls.

So nice to see the

thread pop up again.

I think there is always hope for a Duo as these things were so heavy they all tended to sit in the basement because no one wanted to pay to have them moved out.

Thats how I found all of mine except for the 1956 which came to my by Gregm. He got that one from a used dealer in CT.

When I was a kid, probably talking early to mid 70s here, my dad's parents had a big Bendix washer-dryer combo that sat in their kitchen. It was never used, so I guess it didn't work anymore. I never knew there was such a thing as a combo, and I'd never seen one since until I got on this site. My guess is it was probably early 50s--it didn't seem as fancy as any of yours, John. I remember clearly that it was a Bendix (not a brand that was familiar to me at the time, so it stuck in my brain) and it was a combo. Otherwise the memories are very fuzzy--probably because I never got to see it in use. I used to accompany my grandfather to the laundromat in their neighborhood sometimes, even from a pretty young age, so I have much clearer memories of the SQ machines there.

Is it possible that their Bendix could have had a bit of a slant front--not as slanty as a Westy, but maybe a bit slanted or curved, rather than a strictly cubed shape? I'm certain it did not have that lovely, very automotive-looking door ornamentation.
