My neighbor up the street had this dryer and matching washer, also in Avocado. They got them in '72 when they renovated their house. This was her first automatic, replacing a Maytag wringer (kept for washing cleaning rags) and '57 or so Kenmore dryer. They kept them until sometime in the 80's when they got the Kenmore set in Almond.

My Aunt Eloise also had this set in White, and Aunt Julie had the dryer paired with an older (60's) Kenmore washer.

The awful 80s

That's when my mom's 800 got chunked for a new BD Whirlpool. Yes, it was belt drive, but it just wasn't the same. I seem to remember the 800 wouldn't kick into spin. All it needed was a new wigwag spin solenoid. A whole machine krushed for a small repair.

This is also the time period my grandma's '63 700 gave up. I forgot what went wrong but before I knew it, an early 80s "500" showed up with it's yellow plastic panel and I was not happy.
