The GE 3.6 cu. ft. Top Load Washer will be here with in a few hours along with the GE 7.0 cu. ft. Electric Dryer.

Dryer Model is:GTDP400EMWS
Washer Model is:GTWN4250MWS

Did the family make a good choice?

True Love?

It is the hope you can exercize pride of ownership and answer your own question 10 years from now with a resounding yes.  Washing machines are a radical departure from what we knew and the top load has changed the most.  One advantage for sure is lowered water bills and hopefully less laundry additives to affect the smaller water levels.  Not so many American dirty their clothes while presperation, odors and an occasional drip or spill is the norm.  The worst among them can usually do an adequate job under those circumstances.  Nuances are in ease of use, intuitive controls, quiet operation and better water extraction meaning shorter drying times.  The down side for nearly all brands both top and front load is increased wrinkling making "did I make a good choice with my new iron" a more common follow up question.  My washer is 39 years old so I can't speak directly to your question of latest technology washing machines but I can say with assurance my GE experience with new range, refrigerator and dishwasher was very good.  Furthermore online and telephone access to scheduling your own appointments with GE makes picking the time best for you easy.  In most cases GE comes the next day and once even came the same I day I  scheduled on line.  Owning GE personally and being in property management for 11 years gave me many opportunities to experience brands, sellers and those who service what we choose.  My sense is that if you release everything you ever thought about washing machines and simply open the door at the end of the cycle you'll do well with your new machines.  Keep us posted, these events are almost like "births" in which we all share and love to watch these machines age through the years.  Just like planning ahead for the needs of your family I would advise anyone buying new appliances to purchase an extended warrantee while they are available and inexpensive.

They are setting them up at the moment. They look good and most of the review have online have been good. Cant wait to take it for a spin!

We just bought a GE Profile dryerPTDS650 and I absolutely love this dryer. Very quiet very fast and right on the money with the sensor dry. I know I posted a pic before in another thread. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my Speed Queen washer and getting a GE washer...not the infusor plate one but the one with the GentlePower agitator and HydroWave wash system. And of course the glass lid.

My GE Profiles

Love these GE Profiles...They were purchased in 2007. My washer is a conventional washer with agitator & hydrowave wash system. The hydrowave wash system is great, gentle yet very powerful! Love the dryer too!

GEs are Good

I have a 2004 BOL GE top loader; it's a surprisingly decent machine, just DO NOT OVERLOAD! If I were to trade up, I'd seriously consider one of the Hydrowave agitator models like the ones in this thread. I'm curious, do thay have ATC, or is hot as hot as comes out of the tap?

My family has always had GE washers -- my Mom had two Filter-Flo washers over a a span of 42 years!

My washer has automaic temperature control, think it's kind of hard to find any now days that don't. If you want it real hot turn the cold water off while it's filling!

LOL I took my Speed Queen washer front off and found belt "dust" all over the place and a lovely plastic drive pulley for the transmission. Oh it gets better....the outer tub is rusting at the ring where the springs are..all around the base of the tub. I had one issue where the the belt and idler caused the motor to stall out...what a wonderful smell that is and the washbasket takes forever to get up to speed. It hits 710 barely and that lasts for a min or so.
The agitator holds softener in the barrel and doesnt flush out completely, so there is carryover to the next wash. I double rinse since if I didnt the washer leaves this nice residue all over the clothes. I know I know there are people that gush over a Speed Queen washer and yes I was one of them but after having this washer awhile I gotta say....I am over it. On the softener dispenser...I dont use it...the tenant does. So after he uses it I have to change the agitator out since I use the solid vane that I find washes better and I dont nick my hand since the edge on the softener dispenser is rather sharp. I have a plain cap on the solid vane agitator. I manually add softener to the 2nd deep rinse. I also have to rinse the washer out since its a mess when I use it after him.
Just my opinion and my experience with my SQ washer so dont crucify moi or put my nuts in a vise and squeeze....
 
The Ge washer and dryer is a winner for our house.

The washer is nice and quiet, you would not know it is on at some points. The tub is nice and big and the Hydrowave wash is better then the "Shredmore" washer with fast short action. Spin is faster and longer getting things much dryer out of the washer. The self leveling and the Redistributing action at the end of the wash makes the washer level no more walking along the floor. We did try the auto water level setting and unlike some HE washer the load detecting did not take long, it sprayed the load with water with a slow spin, stopping to test the load only once.

The dryer is quick and quiet. I don't like the Kenmore dryer in our basement, sensor dry is all over the place. The ge is dead on even on small loads. The one nit pick for ge dryer is the light looks like it will be hard to change
 
It shouldnt be hard to change at all...its above the door opening and its only a bulb that you reach in and unscrew. Replacement ones are available at Home Depot.

Belt dust, and rusting....................................

Mike, I told you before,......STOP letting your tenant use your washer!!!!! Sounds like he is overloading the machine, possibly with a comforter, making the water go over the sides of the tub.... #2 I don't care what kind of washer you get, STOP letting your tenant use your machine, maybe put an extra hook-up in the basment for him, especially if it is that much of a mess when he is done....JUST MY BIG MOUTHED NEW YORK OPINION!!!!!! there, I feel better.....I would like your response please...LOL

SQ rust around the bottom of the tub....this is caused by over flow from the bleach dispenser, which I bet your tenant is using.

I thought that too but its from my semi damp basement. I need to take a few pics and show ya what I mean. And yes the tenant uses the bleach dispenser. He uses that Clorox Ultimate goopy stuff that doesnt run freely into the dispenser. We have enough room on the slab for another washer and dryer so methinks that would make sense in the long run so I dont have to deal with it anymore.
 
Mike, you are NOT supposed to use Clorox Ultimate Care Bleach in the dispenser...it is too thick, and your dispenser is now clogged, and the bleach has no where to go but up the dispenser tube and out down the side of the tub....all the way around as a matter of fact!!! Listen to me please, I know what I am talking about...you are gonna have to boil a kettle or two of water and slowly pour it in the dispenser to get that shit out!!!! It clumps up, and does not dissolve. You have had this machine about two years now.....has he been doing this for about two years? If so that dispenser tube is completely blocked, and backing up all over the inside of your machine. This would explain the rust.

I know that and I don't use chlorine bleach and talking to the tenant does not work plus having a partner that knows yet avoids the problem at all costs well you see what I am up against. So this is my lot in life right now and being the fact that no matter what I say my other half has to learn the hard way. If it were me the tenant would get on his f-ing broom and hike his fat ass on over to the laundromat. But he is "friends " with my partner and despises me. It's draining and not just emotionally but financially. I think if I knew then what I know now I would never have agreed to this piece of work living here.
 
The last of the best....

I have what I consider to be the last TOL GE that was NON-Energy Star rated. Its the WPRE8100 (2007 model), and because its not Energy Star rated, it fills to the TOP of the tub, not down 2" like the 8150 does. I also have the last one with a standard agitator, not that sawed off stump they call an agitator now. With no transmission to go out, the only part that could fail is the computer controlled inverter motor, which is easily replaceable without tub removal, and is right up front. You really can't believe how quiet this thing is, until you've heard one in person. I hope this machine lasts me a lifetime, because their is no TOL non-energy star,equal type replacement for it out there anymore.
 
he clorox bleach

The he clorox bleach is to tick for regular washers and not made to be use in a regular washer bleach dispenser the he clorox bleach is formulated to be use in front loaders washer they can be use in top load washers but the bleach must be put as the washer fills in the wash tub and agitated at the low water level setting with no clothes and the detergent to be mix in the wash water and if the wash load is an extra large load you can always resume the fill to the chosen water level after the bleach as been diluted in the wash water. and here is from a inglis whirlpool washer in pdf fromat the proper way to put bleach in a wash load if the bleach is tick for the dispenser.

*from an inglis whirlpool washer user manual in pdf format and i am pretty sure its the same for any brand of top loading washer.

Style 2: Without liquid chlorine bleach dispenser (on some
models)
 Let the washer fill and begin agitating the load.

 Add bleach 5 minutes into the wash cycle for best
cleaning and so that bleach can be removed in the
rinse cycle. Pour bleach around the agitator, not directly
onto the load to avoid damaging clothing or other items
in the load.
