Who has the OLDEST automatic dishwasher, and how well does it work?

Seems like sometime late last summer or early fall someone posted a picture of a Miele from the 1920's. Louis? It was really pretty and very functional looking.

Oh dear, I remember, but I don't know if I still have that picture. BTW, I don't own that, so I can't be the one on the club to own the oldest dishwasher.

this one is a early 50s westinghouse rollout she runs well cleans well and is actually quiet

the oldest automatic dishwasher I think is a 1938 Hotpoint.

I think Robert's Apex has 1948 or there abouts stamped on the motor. Robert can confirm this. I suppose the machine could be 1948 or a year or two later.

Yes my Apex dishwasher is from 1949. I just love it!

That Westy "Christfr" has is beautiful. That is the first kind of dishwasher I ever remember paying any attention to. My relatives in Miami had one that was built-in and pulled out like a giant drawer. Now, that Apex Robert has is most unusual, however, at the wash-in it was the Youngstown that had everyone yelling and jumping back-------the solonoid kicking in was more that their apprehensive nerves could take!!!!!!!!!

1938 hotpoint

If I can find the magazine, I have a full color ad from 1938 for the Hotpoint dishwasher and complete Hotpoint kitchen....will send it to be considered for POD.....

Many of the early dishwashers (Hotpoint, GE, etc.) were not automatic. They were "hands free" washing, but you had to control the fill, wash, drain, etc. manually. I have some very old service stuff from GE that details the construction and operation - it's very interesting...

I believe most of the Youngstown models were gravity drain until they came out with the front loading models where pumps were optional.

The earliest dishwasher I have is a 56 GE Mobile Maid, quite a lot of refinements since the 30's for sure, but still the performance pales in comparison to modern machines - I'm beginning to wonder though from some of the reports about new models!

The Hotpoint Electric Sink (1952 model..was POD several weeks ago) that I grew up with had a gravity drain dishwasher. The drain was even a separate "Y" connection that joined the main drain in the basement.
