A thread of this same topic was started in the Imperial forum, but I thought this was newsworthy enough to bring to the Super forum...

As I said on the other thread--
Sad as it is (for laundry production)... It does bring a slight twinkle to my eye--what is happening to the corporate end of it-- what happened to the poor folks at Hoover, in North Canton, is coming around full turn and happening to those who pulled the strings in Newton.

Hello Corporate America!
Give it a year or so, and Wp/Maytag will head south to Mexico. Maybe Taiwan or China. Good Bye to yet another great American institution.
Bobby in Boston

Mexico

Seeing the age of automobiles Mexican mechanics can repair and keep running, we may be overlooking the best answer to keeping our old machines going.

Well, I'd like to get hold of Ralph Hake...

and run his family Jewels thru a Maytag wringer. Stupid meatstick runs the company into the ground, then resigns and gets a big severence.
That dude is not smart enough to flip burgers!

Any similarities to current events in the U.S.?

Unfortunately, as has been proven in recent politics, you don't have to be "smart enough" anymore, just savvy enough to manipulate public (in this case, stockholder) opinion and sway the other board members (the carrot here would be money) to your way of thinking. When protests of 'values' and 'integrity' come up, you need only to ignore them and push on to the final goal - the sellout and breakup of assets to the highest bidder.

And the beat goes on...

Corporate america...

Always puts the fox in charge of the hen house.

Ironic, isn't it?

W/P, by virtue of it's size and lack of real competition, is now an attractive target that will eventually get sucked up by the likes of a TYCO or similar mega-conglomerate who wants to add new capability and diversity to their holdings while knowing nothing of building appliances. Imagine that.

I feel sorry for all those poor people

When that many people lose their job in such a small geographic area it is hard to imagine them all - or even a majority - finding work anytime soon.
My heart and thoughts go out to them.

Not to be a wet blanket here, but c'mon guys, isn't this what we expected would happen? Also, would you want this to have happened at the hands of the Chineese?

I didn't mean to come across as cold and insensitive. I'm hurting too. I"m sad I'll never make it to Mecca of Iowa before it's all gone. I'm really not sure I could keep from crying just being in those buildings and getting something at the souvenier store. This was running through my head when I was playing with all the center-dials in tucson.
