Yay! After weathering hundreds of scathing reviews when they dropped this item from their line-up last year, the "classic" aerosol stain pretreat is back! This is the best product I've ever used for grease-based stains.

Snickers: "New Classic Laundry Prewash..." New classic?

Wow, I almost forgot about that stuff! Used quite a bit of it in the mid-late 90's when I was in auto-shop in high school.

I remember it being on the oily side and would accumulate dirt if the surface wasn't wiped clean after each use. Hope it still works as well as it used to!

Hi Eugene I have to agree. A lot of these so called pre-treaters do not remove cooking grease. I am a distributor, but did not renew this year, but I think I will now.

Have you been using the Laundry detergent? Is the new formula okay?

Wonder if it still makes the whole load smell like mineral spirits? It really worked great for me back in the day, but the smell was quite powerful and lingered...

Rayjay---The reformulated laundry detergent doesn't remove stains as well as it used to, unfortunately. SA8 used to be my go-to detergent for loads of whites, but not anymore. I still use it for bath towels and other lightly soiled loads, as it rinses better than Tide. UK Persil Bio is now the benchmark for cleaning power in my laundry arsenal.

Mysteryclock: First of all, nice bass. If you have to use a lot of it in a single load, it can leave a scent. I never have to use a lot of it, so it's not a problem.

Re-formulated SA8

Eugene. I have no idea why they changed the formulation. A few years ago it was rated NUMBER 1 by CR.

Eugene.... Did the previous formula have phosphates??? , OR, was it phophate free? Because, if it was phosphate free, it would make no sense in changing since they got an excellent review. Being a distributor, I did contact one of the supervisors about this.

I also am a distributor for Shaklee. Now....their laundry detergent called FRESH is really great for cleaning and whitening. Check their website out and let me know if you try it.

Reformulated....

I used SA8 for dozens of years since I was a distributer -- IIRC they went all phosphate-free in the late 90s, and the performance after that was still excellent. I liked it for that reason and because it didn't break me out like most other detergents did. Then, shortly after the CR #1 they made some further "adjustments" to the formula, and it both stopped cleaning / rinsing well and started breaking me out. This was still in the white-box days before they went to their current olive-drab packaging, btw.

Since then I've looked elsewhere and have finally settled on Persil Megaperls. Hate paying for it but it works great with no ill-effects for me or the family.

It is a good product, but I never liked the smell of the aer

it really got up my nose (and, no, I wasn't sniffing it), used to make me sneeze and give me mild nosebleeds.

My fave from Amway is their Gelzyme liquid detergent; which is also their stain pre-treater. Apart from that I like my Shout Gel in the applicator bottle - choice stuff.

I have no idea why they changed the formulation

Probably because they are trying to save a few pennies on ingredients. This is the age of down-sizing and dumbing down after all. Pay more for less...etc. - before long they'll be making Amway products in China.

Their original formula with phosphate was the best, for all of the reasons already mentioned above. The phosphate-free replacement was alright, but now I am better off buying my concentrate at the supermarket. I actually find that liquid Tide does a better job than SA8 now.

P.S.

I do like their Gelzyme liquid detergent as a stain pre-treater. It comes with its own little applicator bottle and it doesn't have to be washed out immediately. It's okay to dry into the stain and fabric without causing damage and works very well. Then again I also like Shout Gel.
