Well here it is the end of August and I thought one more thread on the topic was warranted. Yesterday, 8/22 here in mid-Mi we had a high of 61 degrees, today it's a balmy 66 at the moment.

We did manage to get a few warm days in earlier in the month, actually ran the air for 1 whole day!. Now they are talking about an el Ninio winter, which mean less snow and warmer temps, I can live with that for the most part, but I can remember Christmases when we had parties and had to turn the air on because it was 70 outside and with all the lights and people it was too hot in the house.

I guess with global warming there will be no more average summers or winters and it will be a roller coaster ride of temps.

Same up in Newcastle

Leaves turning and dropping, dark nights starting to draw in, chilly, rainy, windy and generally dull and miserable. The typical "British summer" I suppose.

It did get up to 22c (72F) here today before the rain set in, hottest it's been for a few weeks :).

This has been the coolest summer that can remember. Not very many days of running the AC. It was cool enough the past couple of nights to turn off a couple of the fans.

I love it, I hope next summer is the same.

the heat makes old men testy

Summer started in May here, it was a hot month. July was hot. It's still hot, plus we are getting hit with some humidity from the Gulf. I would like to take all of the guys who keep saying "it's in the 60's," "it's so cold," "what happened to summer?"...line them up like the Three Stooges and...slap! slap! slap! slap! I would kill for some 60 degree temps, a cloudy, sun-free day and maybe some rain. Count your blessings.

You can come down here and enjoy the heat. You may have to endure a streaking bear though. Right now it's 102 with a heat index of 106. It's also sprinkling outside (go figure). Forecast of similar for the next 4 days. My electric bill this month was $210 (it's never been that high ever). Last year it was $190. My water bill was $109 (same last yeaer) to keep grass alive and water around my foundation.

There were a few cool summers like that when I lived in the midwest, and they are the ones I like best. Far as the regular summers, for me the only good thing was that they were relatively short, and all I wanted was for them to end.

60-75 and no humidity is my ideal, and how it is pretty much year round where I am. It rarely gets above 80, and even when it does it's dry. Yesterday was a humid day (I think we were getting some remnants of what Twintub was talking about), I was glad to get to the gym and a/c, still sweating working out of course but at least I could breathe. That said, I turned on the fans for the first time in weeks, and I've used them only sporadically all season, so it's been very comfortable here most of the summer as well.

Today the humidity is still somewhat elevated still but the wind is up and it's a beautiful day. I have not turned on any fans.

Yup we had our two weeks of mid 80's and now back down to the low 70's or high 60's...it feels like we never really had a summer at all. Then the big rain storm two days ago and a small tornado touched down up the street from mom, quite a lot of trees down and some houses damages but not too too bad. East of here got it much worse.

Well summer has arrived in NYC and shows no sign of leaving just yet. Nothing above 98F, but constant days of >80F temperatures with high humidity.

Air has been so full of water that yesterday noticed my Friedrich AC was leaking water inside. After several removing and re-tiling operations involving shims, it simply became apparent that the unit was working so well it was wringing too much water for it to handle at once. Shutting off the condenser and letting the unit run on fan to dry things out seems to have cleared the problem.

Our winter hasn't been as cold as I have known it. In fact, I would say it has been particularly mild this year. We very very rarely get snow, but we have hardly had a decent frost this year...

...but we did have a kick butt summer....

So with a little luck, we'll have a nice mild summer with temps around the 80-90F....anything hotter and I'm headed to Europe to have a proper winter again...

We're in the midst of winter here and in the last week we've been having 85-90degF maximums, and minimums that have seen us sleeping with the bedroom windows open.

Our winters are usually very mild anyways, with Highs of around 65-75F but this is summer weather.

We had a lot of rain early in the year, and things are looking quite brown now, hopefully we'll have another wet summer

Since I'm just a little west of Pete we share the same weather. I agree we had a very pleasant 2 weeks of summer in mid August, mid 70's to mid 80's, but that is normally our hottest part of the year, upper 80's and 90's.

To be honest I was looking forward to some of those warm summer nights. You know the kind where it's a little humid and still and the crickets are chirping along with the drone of an air conditioner or two. The kind where you can hear the neighbors talking even though they are 3 or 4 houses away. Not this year around here. Nights are chilly, upper 40's , 50's and low 60s. I know that sounds good to many of you sweltering in the heat, but live with it for 3 or 4 months, the months that are supposed to be the best of the weather here, and the heat might not sound so bad.

Ah well, people have always complained about the weahter, so this is nothing new...

Well, we usually get our first "refreshing" cold front through this area around Oct 8. Those are days when you wake up and it's in the low 60's and low humidity with a high of 75 or so. Then it's back up to 95 or so until the next front comes in.

This summer has been unusually hot in Houston. Very little rain on the north side. So the underground sprinkler we installed in March has come in very handy! At least the hurricane season is not so active this year.

Here in western Washington it has been a weird summer. We had record breaking temperatures reaching over 100 degrees in some areas. This went on for a week or so, and then, boom! One day it's 100, the next it's in the low 60's. My petunia's actually went into shock from the weather change. They were doing great until the 60 degree weather hit. I loved the heat, but hate the dreary lack of sunshine we have to endure so much of the year. I guess were fortunate not to have hurricanes, and tornadoes, and Big Bugs!! LOL

In my area the summer isn't over until September is over-and we are getting into the peak of the hurricane season-with the cool summer the hurricane activity is down as another poster says-the hurricanes feed off that HEAT and humidity. My AC bills have been low this summer.Makes fo good sleeping after the mid shift! On the really hot days even with AC sleep during the days becomes more difficult.I like the idea of Seattle-no hurricanes, tornadoes or BUGS-also have those here-and some are BIG and disgusting-esp if you step on one barefoot.
