I'm fed up with the ATC on my LG WM2050. Now that the weather is cooler, even with running the hot water at the adjacent utility sink, Hot is barely warm, warm is basically cold and tap cold is very cold. I've even tried shutting off the cold line to the machine during a hot fill but the machine will not let the timer advance. It just keeps waiting for the cold water.

Any way the thermostat can be adjusted to get hot water in the machine?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Normal Plumbing Connections

I'm using the normal hot and cold water inlets. In addition to running the water at the sink, I've also tried priming the machine itself by starting a hot cycle then stopping, draining and starting the machine again with clothes. It still never wants washer to truly fill the washer with just hot tap water (what I want, no dilution with cold).

Have you tried using a Y-split hose hooked up to your hot-water supply and then both ends of the Y hooked up to the washer, one to the hot water inlet and the other to the cold water inlet? The Automatic Temperature Control still might not like it, but at least it would be getting water in at both inlets. It might fool the machine.

question

I too have a LG WM2050CW, how do you like your LG washer otherwise? Had any problems with it? I love mine and is just 7 months old with no problems. I did find out, that this model is discontinued, and being replaced with WM2140CW, which has the "6 motion" wash actions.

Only one regret...

Not getting the model with an internal water heater. I find it generally cleans well, is extremely quiet and is very frugal on water. The problem is it uses such little water that the hot water doesn't have time to get really hot before it is done filling. I have to run the hot water in the adjacent utility sink to help the situation. (I use this water in the yard but it defeats the purpose of a HE water saving unit.). Because of this and the frustrating ATC blending of cold/hot even on the Hot cycle Hot turns out to be just warm.

I have no idea how the LG determines the water temp, but with my Whirlpool FL (with heater) there is a sensor mounted along with the heater in the base of the machine. In the service sheet that is packed with the machine it gives a read out of the senor's resistance and the corresponding water temp.

Since I too felt Hot was just Warm I added a 2K resistor in series with the sensor and "fooled" it into thinking the water was cooler than it was. The sensor is a varistor that drops in resistance as the temp goes up, so adding a little resistance did the trick. I tried several different values but 2K seems to do the trick. Be aware that this affects all temps at least in my case so cold is now just on the cool side of warm, if you want a real cold wash you won't get it.

labboy:
There is a thermistor that is mounted next to the heater on my machine. I would not be surprised if there is a test for it in the service mode. If you don't know how to enter the service mode, email me and I will look it up in the service manual for my machine. Do you have any picture of the inside of your machine?

Temp woes...

Opening the door and adding water doesn't work with this model. Immediately after closing the door and restarting it will pump out the extra water. I have been able to successfully add water via the detergent drawer when it is running. The most you can add without it knowing (and then initiating a drain) is about two gallons.

I got an incredible deal on this machine. I have seen a similar one with an internal heater on sale and am tempted to go buy it and stop having to fool this one. I have a friend who needs a new machine and would be content with my current machine.

Thanks for all the advice!
