Yes, JeffG, I believe he still owns the rights to the Beatles's catalog----which goes to show just how rich he was during the Thriller/Bad period, that he could outbid freakin' Paul McCartney for rights to the songs McCartney & Lennon wrote.

Eugene, the auction was for ATV's 4000+ song catalog, not just the Beatles stuff. McCartney could have afforded it, but as co-author he was/is receiving 25% of the publishing money, so it didn't make any sense for him to bid more than the $47 million it sold for.

Still I wonder what's going to happen with the catalog. Sony already had 50% of Jackson's stake in ATV, and he died heavily in debt.

Could it be this death is being faked? First we heard he was in a "deep coma" at UCLA, one of the pre-eminent hospitals in the entire world, then he died?

All I can say that the world has come to a halt for a double shocking death that occured today,
and I'm still shaking my head!

I will take 1 St. Johns warts to relax the mind for bed and 2 LunaSom to keep me asleep!

All natural health aid for me....

whirlcool... you go man!

Sorry, but I did get a chuckle of your post. One time, my brother said I looked 'pale.' I quickly replied "It's my new Michael Jackson Skin Care Products I am using"

The scary part is that he wasn't sure if I was kidding or not!

Imagine being 50 years old and expected to perform with the

Well, if Tina Turner and Cher can do it and are well into their 60's, I'm sure he could have done it in his 50's had he been in better health. One story I have heard is that there was a possibility of the pain killers he was on that may have contributed to his cardiac arrest. Apparently the stress and his health was a great factor for his death, and that he was put on pain killers so he could rehearse and get in shape for the upcoming tour. But then people are wondering if he and Farrah Fawcett were good friends, and maybe hearing of her death today as well, put him over the edge. Who knows. All I know is despite the scandals he went through and the torment he got, and I'm sure will still get, regarding the sex abuse allegations, and his physical changes over the years, he was still one of the best artists in recorded history. I personally am a fan of Michael Jackson, and grew up listening to a lot of his music. Most of his newer stuff didn't appeal to me, but from Thriller and before, I listen to all the time. I just hope that he can now rest in peace, and always be remembered as The King Of Pop, for the awesome music he produced over 4 decades. It's just so sad that he had to go at such a young age. Rest in peace, Michael.

So Sad!

I will say that I'm a HUGE MJ fan. I even have some songs on my MP3 player right now that were added last week. I think my favorite song by him was "Billie Jean". Loved the video too.

However, I'm sure most of you got an email on this a few years ago..."Joan Crawford's Long Lost Daughter". Not trying to be mean, but I'm sure you all will get a kick out of the pic again. RIP Michael (and Farrah. You were one HOT Angel!)!

I'm sorry but this story is stinking worse and worse as time goes on.

First we were told Jackson wasn't breathing when paramedics arrived at his house. Now we're being told the paramedics worked on Jackson at his home for 45 MINUTES before taking him to the hospital. AND they're claiming Jackson was in a coma when he arrived at UCLA. And then he died?

This sure doesn't sound like any cardiac arrest I've heard of. In fact, other than a drug overdose, I can't think of a single medical condition where all four of the above claims should (or even could) be true.

If it was a heart attack or cardiac arrest, there's no reason to "work" on him for 45 minutes before taking him to a hospital. He was either breathing or he wasn't, and his heart was either beating or it wasn't.

Well at least Michael went quickly. My uncle had a heart attack in his kitchen one morning. He just collapsed. He was taken to the hospital and he survived, but his heart was severely damaged during the cardiac event.
When I saw him I asked him if it hurt before and during the incident. His response: He said no it didn't hurt at all. He remembers pouring his coffee into his cup and then he was "fast forwarded" to his hospital bed. He had to ask the nurse how he got there. He had no memory of anything else.

Am Sad To Hear Of Anyone Passing On

However the stories in the media just seem to have a whiff about the thing.

According to this morning's early news, Mr. Jackson was worked on for 45mins total at his home by his personal physican, paramedics and others, then another hour( or about) at UCLA medical center before being pronounced dead.

Everyone is saying Mr. Jackson died of cardic arrest, well that is what we ALL die of, it nothing more than his heart stopped beating. While 50 is not as young, it is not as "old" as it once was, and Mr. Jackson enjoyed by all accounts excellent medical care through out his life. For the man to suddenly "drop dead" makes no sense, IMHO, unless there was some underlying health condition neither Mr. Jackson nor his physicans were aware of.

Normally the producers and more importantly the insurance companies fronting such large entertainment ventures such as a concert tour planned by Mr. Jackson would have insisted on a clean bill of health before sigining on the dotted line. Agian, while middle age isn't what it once was, the man still was 50 and about to embark on a tour that would wind a 20 year old. Mind you the Rolling Stones and others are much older than Mr. Jackson was and Mick keeps on plugging away.

Reports state Mr. Jackson had Lou Ferrigno as a personal trainer and could possibly have been doing "doubles" of his workout. If the man was totally out of shape, suddenly pushing his body to those limits could bring on trouble, but again highly doubt any workout regime would not have been approved by Mr. Jackson's personal physican, and someone of Mr. Ferrigno's stature in the bodybuilding/personal training world would do something that could possibly harm his client.

Am also wondering why the personal physican was there in the first place. I mean it is rather good that the cardiac "event" (if that is what caused death), occured while the physican was there, but it is not normal for a personal doctor to hang around while one is having a workout,or even at home unless there is something else going on.

Sad to hear when someone passes. Will be interesting to see who truly believes that he faked his death, as there are still diehard Elvis fans who still cling to that hope 32 years after his death.

I grew up with his music, but when he got too odd to even deal with, all I can remember is my favorite joke:

What does Michael Jackson and caviar have in common?
They both come on white crackers......

More info on the Beatles catalog:

Bizarrely, Sir Paul McCartney, the super-rich former Beatle, could be one of the beneficiaries of Jackson’s will. Reports earlier this year said Jackson had left McCartney his stake in the Beatles’ song catalogue. But given that this share already has a $200 million loan secured against it, there could be a few court hearings before the former Beatle gets the songs back in his own collection.

Some estimate that Jackson’s top assets, including copyrights to his own songs and the Beatles song catalogue stake, are worth more than $1 billion.

No doubt Jackson’s family, his creditors, and partners such as Los Angeles-based real estate investment trust Colony Capital LLC and music catalogue joint venture partner Sony Corp, will all be laying claim to some of these assets.

That's interesting, JeffG. I'd like to see McCartney own his music.

I can only imagine the nightmare his estate will have trying to sort out all the legalities and loans/debts. I'm sure everyone who ever had contact with him will be coming out of the woodwork, not to mention the possibility of conflict among the immediate family members.

Sanford

While I am sure he would have never wished MJ ill, I suspect there is a governor in South Carolina who is feeling some relief.

Assuming Jackson's family and his creditors don't go after this catalog (which they probably will), to own it outright, McCartney would still need to buy out Sony's stake, and pay off the balance of the $200 million loan that was taken out against it.
