Death "and taxes"

Obviously I cannot speak to any "sheltering devices" that may or may not have been employed, but the portion of his estate which transfers after death and exceeds $3.5 million is subject to a 45% Federal Estate Tax. Gosh, if he hadn't gotten into so much financial trouble we might have been able to balance the budget.

More on taxes

...and, so, our government, with a priority lien, will probably be in the music business as well as the car business. This can't be good.

You're assuming a lot.

It's a safe bet that Jackson's estate is very well sheltered from taxes.

In regards to Tina and Cher still preforming

Not only are they older than Miachael, they do it all in heels too!

We're not a bunch

of catty old queens, now are we?
Sheesh - he was a brilliant choreographer, outstanding dancer, terminally screwed-up nut-case of indeterminate race, gender and sexual orientation...
R.I.P.
And, really, anybody spending more than five minutes on this seriously needs to get a life.

Keven, OMG do you realize how many media employees across the globe you have targeted with that remark? I'm with you 100% but you can add this to the likes of Marilyn and Anna Nicole cases that have and will continue to spawn books and tabloid TV specials for many years. This thing with The King of Pop (and I am not disputing that title) has only just begun.

Yeah, that's a lot of life getting you're suggesting there Keven. And we're not even talking about the fans.

Another sad commentary on what qualifies for journalism these days, but it's what the bulk of the viewing public wants to see. Another sad commentary there but I've gotta stop this somewhere.

Right Spot

Well, Liza M. has issued a statement, one wonders how Miss. Diana Ross is taking the news.

As for persons being catty and such: well if Mr. Jackson had just been any other famous entertainer or merely "famous" (whatever that means in today's world), his sudden death would have been news enough. However in a sad but ironic way the man's demise adds yet another strange twist to a life steeped in scandal, muck and, well "strangeness".

Perhaps in some small way Mr. Jackson will now join the other immortals such as Marilyn Monroe and others whose early (and some would say suspicous) deaths pushed the more scandalous parts of their lives towards the rear and firmly seated them as one of the greats. Mr. Jackson's record sales and such were in the tank until yesterday, now try and purchase anything at formerly give away prices.

Sadly what will happen is perhaps more of the nasty truth about Mr.Jackson's personal life will out. Already one family who was paid 15 million dollars by Mr. Jackson to hush up something that went on between the man and their son,now feels the death of the former frees them from any previous legal agreements to keep quiet. You can bet they won't be the last.

The guy sold 750 million records and was loved by a billion people.

Hopefully Keven's friends will spend at least five minutes talking about him, when he passes away.

Annie Are You O.K.?

Holy freakin' crap! Have you seen the numbers for MJ's videos at YouTube?

Thriller: 37,000,000 views
Beat It: 24,000,000 views

All those high-traffic cute kitty/puppy videos have officially been blown out of the water.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen AP's (and Reuters) servers maxed out. Couldn't get thru to either one for about two hours. *That* is some serious bandwidth.

Like I Said

Something does not make sense.

Yes, saw the reports earlier regarding medications, and yes again Demerol and or Oxycodone alone if given in proper doses can cause cardiac arrest, and together the risk is greater.

Again, why was Mr. Jackson's personal physican at the residence, and why did he perform CPR alone first for a good while before the 911 call was placed?

Even if a medical professional is in attendence where a person experiences any sort of medical emergency, the proper thing to do (assuming someone else is there as well to make the call), is to summon aide while he or she works to "rescue" the person. Cardiac arrest is not the sort of thing one can or should simply recover from, get up and perhaps say in bed for a few days.

You mark my words, this is has a whiff of of Anna Nicole Smith and a host of other famous person's deaths due to unintentional consequences of perscription drug use.

It just simply is not normal for an apparently healthy 50 year old man to "drop dead" to such an extent that immediate and sustanined medical attention could not revive him.

...and it is now said that the sale, post-mortem, of MJ memorabila/merchandise/crap will pay off his debts and leave lotsa money for his heirs.

One thing I don't get... do "his" kids have any of his DNA? One appeared to be rather pale to me. Sorry, I just dont know.

Sad to see him go so suddenly and relatively young, even though he was just a shadow of his former genius. I can't say I was ever a strong fan, but I appreciated his talent and impact on modern pop music.

Recent news stories say Jackson was given an injection of Demerol by his quack doctor 1/2 hour before he collapsed and stopped breathing.

I imagine that doctor will face intense scrutiny, both criminal and professional. He might just lose his license (and it would seem if his care caused Jackson's death, maybe he should).

Also apparently Jackson was deeply in debut, to the tune of $400 million. He was burning through $10 million a year, spending at least $30 million a year while earning only $20 million a year. I remember one interview with him about 10 years ago, which detailed his spending habits. He'd just buy very expensive knickknacks - oriental vases, etc, on impulse. It was like a disease, like he was trying to fill some void with purchases. No doubt all his creditors will be fighting tooth and nail about who should be paid off first off the proceeds of his estate.

I do feel sorry for his kids - who are left without the only father they've known and cast into an unenviable spotlight. Hopefully the rest of the Jackson family will step up and help both with their financial and parental care.
