I found a Thor Automagic Sink never used, but stored in a barn since the late 40s.It has the washing machine tub and dishwasher tub and all of the instructions. The porcelain top is perfect, new. The metal cabinet is all rusty, but sanded and painted it would be fine,The mechanism appears to be frozen I tried to lightly turn the belt, locked up of course sitting that long would do it the washer tub is mint and the dishwasher also and the inside and outside of the porceline tub is excellant and it still has the ground wire rolled up with a pipe connecter attached to it.150.00 I think I should get it.What do all of you think are they rare,Thanks Bobby

Yes rare. I have seen one at at a fabulous wash-in in Arizona. I'd personally love to see the DW insert in action!

Go for it!!!

Those Thors are extremely rare -- especially with the dishwasher insert. The mechanism is fairly simple to work on. I've seen only one Thor sink in my life. But my family used a Thor automagic when I was growing up.

Ross can tell you about them. They're wonderful.

Custodial Care:

Dear Whirlaway:

You have found something very rare, and something that is being highly, hotly sought-after by a group of homeowners. I am referring to people who own Lustrons, the all-steel "dream house" of the late 1940s. Lustron offered the Automagic as an option, with or without the dishwasher tub, I believe. For a Lustron owner, an Automagic would be the Holy Grail of restoration. If you buy this and are successful getting it back into working condition, you will always have people ready to offer you a goodly amount of money for it. There are Lustron sites all over the Internet, and a YahooGroups discussion group, too. So, think of yourself as the custodian of a museum piece, and know that someday, someone will be very grateful to you for your care of it, as they install it in a Lustron.

I need to get it

I guess I need to get it.It weighs475lbs out of the crate according to the book and spin drys at 500 and some rpms.I cant believe it only uses one small belt to run it and it has a pump not a gravity drain.Like I said the cabinet is really rough, lots of sanding and primer and paint. Its 5ft long and 36inches high.I dont have a digital camera, but a friend has,so if I get it I will post pics. The only thing I saw that was missing was the bolt at the top of the agitator,I think it has like wings on it.A huge wing nut. Thanks Bobby
