I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this Swan Teasmade at a thriftstore I visited last Saturday. Only 7 euros for a machine that looks like new. Apart from a little dust, it was totally clean, inclusing the teapot. So I think this was never used.

It's on my desk now, great for a cup of tea while browsing this website!

where does the water and teabag etc go in?

Teabag? What is this evil you speak of???

At the back of the clock there is a basically a small kettle with pressure system and a teapot. Water in one side and tea leaves in the other.

When the alarm goes off, you hit the switch and it starts the water boiling....the boiling water moves into the teapot via a metal tube from one side into the spout of the teapot....wait a few minutes for it to steep....and

Presto...teasmade!

Congratulations on your great finds!

Actually the one I used could be set to have the tea brewing when it woke you. The boiler has a gasket in the lid like a pressure cooker so that the water has to come to a good boil, as is a must for proper tea brewing, before the steam forces it from the tea kettle to the tea pot through the spout. The connection definitely has a male part P inserted into the female part V.

A handy site to know:

is xe.com/ucc

"ucc" in this case means "universal currency converter."
Linky included.

Good catches, Louis! I believe that the Teasmade has been around since the late 1930s (with a slight interruption). That Krups frozen dessert machine is very desirable, and if a person keeps the cylinder in the freezer all the time, frozen desserts are but moments away.

Thanks!

A Teasmade makes indeed the tea automatically before the alarm goes off. Not that you need the alarm then because when the water boils and it goes into the teapot a lot of noise is being made.

There's a website dedicated to this wonderful British invention.

Lawrence, unfortunately my freezer is too small to have it constantly ready for making frozen desserts!

Frigid

Louis I have a Krups ice cream maker and it is flawless in it's execution of frozen desserts.  I have a separate stand up freezer in which I keep the vessel frozen.  You'll be happier with the performance if you have a non frost free freezer because the temperatures get colder.  -10 over night will provide you with the cooling capacity you need to freeze the dessert in 10 - 15 minutes.  Its is better if you mix the custard the night before so it is thoroughly chilled.  I'll think of you next time I have an ice cream headache.

Neat finds Louis. I've been wanting to get the ice cream attachment for my KitchenAid mixer, don't know if I would use it enough.

Odd that those teasmade gadgets weren't over here considering how much gadgetry has been available over the years. Looks like you could almost have a collection of all the different brands and models there are / were .

At the moment there is not space enough in the bottom freezer of my Bosch fridge. I am thinking about buying an extra freezer (indeed a non frost free freezer). Until I have more space in the freezer the icecream maker will have to wait. I have seen a great recipe in the booklet that came with it. It's sorbet ice from grapefruit juice and honey. Because grapefruit juice is a big no no for me I will try that one with orange juice.

Pete,

Have you seen the movies about the Teasmade collectors?

Kelly,

Stop eating your icecream so fast! lol
