Tide hygienic clean legit or false advertisement?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Wouldn`d say false advertising but it is misleading just like Oxy vs Oxi.

Every measure that improves cleanliness and therefore reduces the chance of transmitting diseases could be considered a measure of hygiene.
That includes washing hands with plain water vs not washing them at all or the Romans washing their clothes and cleaning their homes with urine, or even ventilating a room by opening a window.

Disinfection would be a measure to improve hygiene too but it`s not a requirement.

Tide, Persil (USA version) and some others have jumped onto "hygienically clean" bandwagon.

Near as one can figure out those claims are based upon detergent in question doing a better job (in theory) on sweat and body oils.

Like many others Tide detergents in various forms (liquids, powders, pods..) all start from same base formula. Then things are added to make up the dozens of variations on offer.

This is common for many consumer products that have reached mature stage of lifecycle. Think about it; how many variations of toothpaste does any particular market require? Same for toilet tissue, washing up liquid, and so on.

To generate ever more sales and keep consumer interest, P&G like others keeps tweaking products and or coming out with variations to meet this or that perceived area of market.

Up until 1980's or 1990's you had only one or maybe two versions of Tide in either powder or liquid. Now there are three, five or more depending upon which format is chosen.

For Tide "hygienically clean" two ingredients ((Diethylenetriamine, Methyl Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate), are added that aren't always found singly or together in other versions of Tide liquid format detergents (this would include pods).

Ingredients
Cleaning Agents (Sodium and MEA Laureth Sulfate, Sodium and MEA C10-16 Alkyl Benzenesulfonate, C10-16 Pareth, C10-16 Alkyl Dimethylamine Oxide), Stabilizers (Sodium Borate, Sodium Cumenesulfonate, Calcium Formate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil), Suds Reducers (Sodium and MEA Salts of C12-18 Fatty Acids, Phenylpropyl Ethyl Methicone, Simethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate), Water Softener (Sodium and MEA Citrate), Enzymes (Subtilisin, Amylase Enzyme, Pectate Lyase, Mannanase Enzyme), Cleaning Aids (Pentasodium Pentetate, Polyethyleneimines Alkoxylated), Process Aid (Sodium Formate), Whitening Agent (Fluorescent Brightener 71), Odor Removers (Diethylenetriamine, Methyl Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate), Solvents (Propylene Glycol, Alcohol, Ethanolamine), Colorants, Fragrances, Water

Methyl Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate is found in other versions of Tide liquids, but only a handful.

Tide original scent "turbo clean" makes similar claims about "hygienically clean"

In my opinion, regardless of what detergent you use

The only true way how you can be sure if it’s sanitised for hygienically clean whatever the terminology the kids use these days, is that always thermally sanitise things using a high temperature, I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea because some people love to wash everything from socks and towels to bedding in cold water *shudders*

Extra Rinse Required

Just tried these. It's sort of a novelty for me as it's easy to just place something premeasured into the washer. Using just one and the standard wash and rinse, there was still some suds in the rinse water and a strong perfume smell when I took the clothes out of the dryer. Some people may not care and even like the odor. With future loads I'll be selecting an extra rinse, hoping to tone down the perfume smell.

I tend to shave rather aggressively and so often have spots of blood on bath linens. You mentioned blood stain removal, so here is what a leading consumer magazine that people here love to hate found in its tests of blood stain removal using various Tide products.

I use Tide 10X Hygienic Clean Pods, which are larger than standard pods, for large loads. I use Tide Ultra Oxi Pods, which are standard size, for small to medium-sized loads. My washer is a 2017 9-Series Speed Queen toploader. I have softened water.

Blood Stain Removal (based on a score of 5) Liquids:
Tide Ultra Release: 4
Tide 10X Hygienic Clean: 4
Tide Ultra Oxi: 3
Tide With Bleach Alternative: 3
Tide ColdWater: 3
Tide Turbo Clean: 2

Blood Stain Removal (based on a score of 5) Pods:
Tide 10X Hygienic Pods: 4
Tide Ultra Oxi Pods: 4
Tide 4-in-1 Oxi Pods: 2

no need to bleed

Ever since switching to Gillette ProGlide blades, I've never cut myself, no matter how hard I press down or direction of shave. They do cost a lot, but they're really worth it in terms of comfort and closeness of shave. Sometimes you can get a good deal on a starter kit of a new handle and two blades. Then you can decide whether it's something you want to use regularly.
