I must say when I first saw these detergent pod things I certainly wasn't too interested in trying them. I'm an old fashioned powdered detergent kind of guy. So I have to admit now that I've tried them they sure are convenient when I'm busy or in a rush.

I also found that putting them into the bleach dispenser cup in vintage Frigidaire agitators works really well in dispensing these things.

See even I'm living modern ;-D

You Know What You're Doing, But....

....It would scare me to do that, because I'd be worried about one of those hard little undissolved pods taking a chunk out of one of my agi rings....

Don't worry Sandy, I tested it first in other washers. Besides our water temperature is set to 150, it dissolves fast in that. If the rings were going to be taken out, it would more likely happen from a shirt button, but its never happened. I've been using this washer since 1997.

We use them all the time, my son loves them and they make doing (full loads of) wash super easy and mess-free.  I've been buying the Kirkland Signature from Costco and they really are a pretty good deal.

They're fun to toss from across the room, too.  :-)

Robert:

Well, you're braver than I am - plus you know much more than I do about where to get unobtainium Frigidaire parts if anything went wrong.

Anyway, I think I'll stick to powder for the sake of the full Back In The Day Experience.

The pods will dissolve very efficiently in the bouncing water inside a three-ring pulsator and the casing of an undissolved pod doesn't harden unless it makes a trip through the dryer, so no worries about damage to the rings. They're super-convenient and the better ones (Tide, All With Oxi, Wisk, Kirkland Signature) do an excellent job of cleaning.

While I use pods almost exclusively (still no pod version of Perwoll For Blacks, unfortunately), they can be a fun addition to any detergent collection.

So, in case anyone is wondering, the pods work perfectly fine in an AW6 General Electric automatic washer from 1948 as well. I just drop it right into the detergent dispenser opening at the 1:00 position. It was melted through the incoming swoosh of water and flushed into the outer tub within 20 seconds. Once the detergent is in the outer tub it gets pumped back up into the solid inner tub via the recirculation pump.

Actually to be fair I already did drop the pod in, you can see it sudsing up under the recirculation-fill stream at 10:00. After I did I thought arrrrgh, I should have taken a picture for that thread. So the picture below is my reenactment lol!.

Well, this thread got me interested in trying the pods. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I got Member's Mark from Sam's Club. There's 90 pods in the container with a picture of the pod on the front that has "1 LOAD" printed on it. In fine print on the back of the container is the following> *1 Pac = 1 Medium load. Then when I looked closely at the blue circle on the front with 90 Loads printed in on it, there's a little asterisk behind the word LOADS.

I wonder what they consider a medium load and in what type of water? Our water is softened but there were a couple of Zoom-Spout oil spots on my jeans that didn't come out. I've been putting in two or three. Still no suds and poor results. Washer: Maytag 806. Full load 19 to 20 gallons. Warm or hot wash used. It looks like plain old liquid detergent in cling film. If I were to use liquid out of a jug I would use two to three times more than what's in that little pod. A heaping cup of non-phosphate powder works better. This seems like a gimmick to get my money and give me dirty clothes like I see most of the public walking around in. Maybe this is just a poor brand? But I'm not gonna pay $20.00 plus for the pretty ones that look like candy. That's just too much money.

Ingredients: Surfactants (anionic and/or nonionic) and enzymes. Contains biodegradable cleaning agents. As always, contains no phosphates. (Wonderful!)
100% Money Back Guarantee. Superior Quality and Performance (my foot). Maybe I should take these back. I'm completely unimpressed. Are the more expensive ones more concentrated? These are an inch and a half by an inch and a quarter by an inch thick. Like I said, the liquid inside is thin, like it came out of a jug and they stink pretty bad. Under the guarantee it reads, "We would like to hear from you with any comments or suggestions". Anybody else experienced this?
