Tide Tiles

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Thanks for the heads-up on Tide Tiles, Glenn. I hadn’t read anything about them. Sounds like an interesting concept. It’s certainly been in development for a long time. I’ll definitely have to try these when they finally make it up here to the open prairie.

Not surprised they’re designed for cold water washes, given the push that has gotten the past 10-15 years. Will be interested to see if they clean well in warm or hot water, as I rarely wash in cold. Also curious to find out how much suds they produce. Tide pods produce too much suds in the SQ front-loader with my uber-soft water, so I’ve stopped using pods altogether.

Went to tide.com and found they are gearing up for the launch of Tide Tiles, but no info yet.[this post was last edited: 3/8/2024-20:17]

Oh what can possibly go wrong here…such as people not reading how to use and putting the tile in the washer’s detergent dispenser and not realizing that it will not dissolve. I can see that happening and that will result in a service call for jammed drain pumps. I cannot see this taking off in any way. Much like the Tide Tabs from the early 2000’s. I did like those and they did a good job at cleaning and the scent was rather nice I thought. One detergent I wish would come back would be Wisk PowerScoop. It worked well and one did not need much to get a full load clean.

"Tiles" is the same format as laundry sheets, which are the latest thing about which a small segment of consumers seems to be raving regards to some boutique scent-free options.  That magazine that some folks love to hate largely gives those product a nay.  Remains to be seen how the more main-stream Tide offering is rated, if it even gets to that point.

Tide laundry, tiles

Hopefully these will work it would’ve been nice if the little laundry strips would have worked but they just don’t work at cleaning very well.

I’ll wait and see the test results and the final cost of using them I hope they figured out how to do it because it would be great if people could get away from all the plastic bottles that detergent comes in.

Thanks to Littlegreeny`s link the mystery is solved.
So it`s going to be a detergent sheet and judging from the EC30 ingredients a very good one compared to other sheet detergents.

Time will tell how it compares to other detergent brands and formats, but I find this statement in Tide Evo`s press release kind of amusing:
"Tide evo is five times more effective at removing common stains than the leading competitive brand bargain detergent"
Which might translate into 5 times more effective than some sh***y bargain brand (Sun? Xtra?) but 3 times less effective than a decent traditional detergent. Marketing phrases...LOL

The MSDS of EC30 shows a pH of 10 in a 1% solution which is rather caustic, comparable to normal powder detergents yet they recommend it even for delicates.
From personal experience I wouldn`t want to use a high pH product on anything with elastics like socks, underwear, work out clothes or even jeans on a regular basis. Not even in a cooler wash temperature.
The high pH however might excel other formats when it comes to odor removal and certain stains. But for delicates, seriously?

LOL, Lawrence! That’s so true. If these tiles find their footing in the marketplace there will undoubtedly be at least a half-dozen variations.

I’m in detergent experimentation mode lately, so am very tempted to try the EC30 version. Wonder if Tide will bring the price down a bit? They’re not cheap at $1 apiece, especially if two are needed for very large, heavily soiled loads.

Still, as John mentioned, it would be great to see these succeed as far as reducing plastic packaging goes.[this post was last edited: 3/9/2024-10:47]

Thanks for the link to EC30, David! Curiosity got the best of me so placed an order for a box of 30 sheets/swatches/tiles. As the Tide Tiles are ready to be launched, I assume the EC30 brand is basically the release candidate. Reading the dismal reviews of other detergent sheets, I’ve never bothered trying them.
