Tide Ultra Oxi Powder for the win

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Over years P&G has stepped up their game with Tide "Free and Gentle" liquid.

OBAs are gone so it's good for colours and darks. It also cleans quite well, same or even better at some loads than Persil (American version), and of course without the very heavy scent.

Several months ago someone was auctioning off several job lots of Tide "Free and Gentle" powder. Each lot had many cases (maybe a pallet), but there was no shipping.

Instantly got the look which says "No, you are not buying a pallet of laundry detergent, so just don't even think about it...". *LOL*

Pete, I feel the exact opposite.  I have lost all respect over the years for anything CR does.  Too many reports of shady dealing behind the scenes. Wirecutter takes a bit of a different tac.  For example in their washer reviews one member lived with the top rated LG for 4 years and actually used it. This is the case with many of their long term reviews.  For me that adds credibility you can't get from a few hours of testing. they both use AI to scan reviews on varies sites to help determine longevity.

CR is a money-beg (and a print subscription does not garner online access, additional payment is required).  Dad had a print subscription.  I established online access to the acct several months after he died to check the status of it.  Mom and I decided not to renew.  The subscription expired with the 11/2023 issue.  They're still sending multiple emails per week pleading for him to pay-up a renewal.

Consumer reports and shady dealing?

I have never heard of any claims against consumer reports that were held to be valid, and wire cutter is obviously very biased. They’re just taking the main road when they do a report on front loading washers and they skip the biggest maker, whirlpool, Maytag, and then they also don’t bother to mention alternatives like Speed Queen, it’s not much of a report, they’re just going with the flow trying to be noncontroversial, but that doesn’t work. I expect hard hitting evidence that is backed up by scientific proof and wire cutter is just not doing that.

Over the years CR has been involved in some lawsuits that turned me off a bit and there were products I owned and my experience differed greatly from their reviews. For me, these were enough to reduce my opinion of CR. Decades ago I was a long term subscriber, but I dropped them in the 90's. Have not picked them up in a long time.
