Time for a new "Laundry Center"

My 8yr old one piece stacked Frigmore is starting to make (bearing?) noise when it starts to spin down after spin cycle is finished. Can't decide weither to have Sears come look at it or send it to the great appliance store in the sky.
Replacements are limited, there is the Maypool units with odd load sizes; 2.5 wash,5.9 dry and doesn't have auto load sense for water.
Then there are the Generalmores. Bigger capacity and full goverment protection from energy being squandered.
Finally, there is the BEAUTIFUL Fridgaires (in charcoal!) the only unit to use a wash plate. I would appreciate any input you can offer. We have to stick to the one piece units, since front loader won't work with either of our backs!

New TL Laundry Centers

The most reliable two are the nearly identical, MT, MET3800XW or WP, WET3300XQ, the dryer part of these two machines is the best dryer ever sold in a full sized stack. The washer section is still the tried and true DD washer mechanism with the cast-iron transmission. There is nothing unusual about a 2.5 CF washer and a 5.9 CF dryer, this is about the perfect ratio, a dryer should always be at least as large as a TL washer.

 

Next best choice would be the Frigidaire-Electolux stacks, but the dryer section has not improved one bit and while the washer may be about average in durability but sub-par in cleaning performance.

 

The GE stacks, RUN, RUN RUN away, we have been writing $900 estimates to repair the washer sections of their Full Sized stacks on 1+years old machines. The suspension struts are breaking and destroying the transmission and about every other part in the process.

A SQ Stack Would BE By Far The Best Choice

But the poster said they did not want a FL washer.

Combo, thanks for the input. I wondered if the WP units would be similar to the "mini stack" I have at the cabin. It has had a very rough life and still does a great job (except for the weird spray rinse).
