Hi, I bought a new door seal for my Maytag WU202 but I'm having trouble getting it fully seated. The gasket has many tabs with little barbs on them to hold it snugly in place but I haven't found a good way to press the tabs in far enough to seat. I have tried pressing as hard as I can with both hands, and also working the pressure back and forth perpendicular to the gasket but only a few of them have fully seated. What am I mising here?

Here is a pic of the dishwasher (mine is bottom right): https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53734935812_335f0cb700_b.jpg

And here is a pic of the dang barbed tabs I'm losing the battle with:

Thanks in advance!

Wow, that video just got posted 3 days ago, and it's for the very gasket I'm talking about! Great find, askolover, thank you.

The folks in that video had the same problem as me, seems like by using a hair dryer to warm the gasket up they were able to get the barbed tabs in so I'll try that tomorrow. They mentioned at the end that it was a nightmare of a job and still leaked with the new seal until they adjusted the latch but didn't show how they did that, unfortunately. Oh well, some info is better than none. I'll post back with the results.

Changing older Maytag dishwasher door gaskets

First of all, this is almost never necessary unless it’s torn you can merely adjust the latch if it leaks a little bit.

That said I usually would drop the gasket in a pot of boiling water to soften it up. Then take the outer door panels off the dishwasher so that you can get to the back of the tabs and put a little bit of soap on the dishwasher door liquid dishwasher soap that is And then just pop the tabs through and you can pull a little bit from the outside if you need to with a needle nose pliers.

The gasket in the video did not need changing. They’re just slobs to let it get that dirty. I’d hate to see the way. The dishes came out of that dishwasher if the door seal gets black and moldy.

Thanks for the info, Combo52. In hindsight I may have not needed to replace the gasket, I may have just needed to adjust the latch but I didn't know the latch could be adjusted until after I had bought the new gasket. Oh well. I used your advice and that made installing the gasket a breeze. I also gave the whole interior a good cleaning while I was in there. Put it all back together and tested it, leaked even worse than before. Played with the latch adjustment and tested some more, now the leak is gone. Hoo-ray! I cleaned the old gasket and am going to hang on to it for now even though I'll probably never need it, lol. Maybe if anyone here ever has a use for it I can send it to them.

Btw, is there a way to receive emails when people reply to threads here?

Thanks again!
