tips for moving 250 lb FL washer into truck

I'm looking for tips on getting a 250 lb front load washing machine (Miele w1926) into the back of a pick-up which is about 34" off the ground. I'm told that the moving bars are still available and I'm going to borrow or rent an appliance dolly.

Has anyone used shoulder or forearm straps for moving something this heavy?

Would a board used as a ramp be the best option?

Any suggestions appreciated!

See if you can unbolt any weights that are inside the machine and take the motor out. That should help lighten it somewhat

No, that is not possible with a Miele

As their washers use a cast iron set of weights that are integral to the tub. In order to remove you'd have to get the whole tub assembly out of the machine.

Don't screw with the internals of a complicated, sophisticated machine.  Rent a hand truck and a moving truck with either a ramp or a lift gate unless you can find someone who knows his ass from a shotgun when it comes to moving appliances. You make it sound like you don't have the transit bars installed. I don't know how much you have invested in this washer, but you could totally ruin it through careless handling. Moving it over roads is going to involve vibrations and jolts so the suspended mechanism needs to be locked in place.

Moving A Miele Washer

Just make very sure the thing is secure and properly adjusted on dolly before moving.

Without any sort of loading dock, yes you'll need some sort of ramp to get the machine up into and out of your truck. Again make sure the thing is sturdy and properly fitted.

Granted the trucking company that moved my Miele from NJ to NY had a truck with a life gate, it was a one man job getting the washer into our home from curb.

The previous owner thinks they still have the moving bars so I'll install them before moving the washer and will look into renting a truck with a ramp.

I will definitely treat this treasure with the care it deserves She's being saved from the curb and I'll be taking this complicated, sophisticated machine apart once it's moved to troubleshoot a leak.

I moved my Miele 1986 from NC to TN without the shipping bars. It weighs a ton but didn't hurt it at all. Heck, it bounces more with heavy wet laundry in it (until it gets up to a good speed) than it did during the transport! Moved my Asko to my last 2 apartments and then to my current house (18 years ago) also without the shipping supports...same story, didn't hurt it.

After loading many Miele machines

I tend to lay them on the side (Drawer side down).

All the wet stuff is on this side and the electronics tend to live on the other side.

For me it avoids a bigger lift. This becomes a smaller lift (Almost a tip) and then slide (On a heavy sheet or blanket).

Remember to drain out all the water you can.

Take the drawer out because it may end up broken and washing machines with busted fascia panels are god ugly.
