I brought my wife's uncle's Maytag wringer washer home this last Saturday which he was still using up until November, 2008. My question is, how old is it? It is a Model E2LS, serial no. 116950. It has the rubber safety foot pad deactivated, for which I'm thankful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, after looking closer there are 2 letters, "JR". They were hard to see as they were just stamped into the plate, not printed. Hope this helps decode the mystery.

Tim ... JR = September 1982; 14 months before end of production in November 1983.

Those are great machines; enjoy! Any pics?

:-)

I'm still in the Stone Age as far as uploading pics. She's a real diamond in the rough though. It needs a thorough cleaning and some wax on the porcelain. Uncle Edmund was your typical 84yo bachelor farmer, not well versed in the art of keeping a clean home. I found D-Con pellets inside the machine, but I made sure there were no hitchhikers before I loaded it in our minivan. My wife's only comment was, "What do you want with that damn relic!" I told her to never mind.

Tim ... I use liquid Turtle Wax; I've tried Johnson's Paste Wax, too and that works well. Turtle Wax dries quicker and is easier to get off.

Well ... at least your Uncle was using D-con; guess it could have been worse!! :-)
